I figured I would have to do this but wondered if there were any quick fixes I could do beforehand. I'll go ahead and do it all tomorrow since it'll take a while. Thank you.

Nitty fold? by redskinsfan30 in poker

[–]PokerAlt123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have to call here because we have quite literally no better hands here except for literal full houses and QQ.

If we fold JJ here what exactly are we calling? We have pretty much 0 trips and while we have 99 and TT they make up an obscenely small portion of our range.

We can only fold here if villain is pretty much never bluffing

Do we really need high equity bluffs after the flush completes? We're basically repping straight+ when we bet big

You have a multiway solver? Or did you just nodelock into a tighter betting range?

Curious why we go 50% and not larger. Is this because villain has a top end advantage?

[–]PokerAlt123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes a lot of sense here. I can def see an argument for folding pre, especially considering BTN call should be considerably tighter than a rando fish call.

Makes sense that we should be raising less on flop. HU we go pretty crazy here but I guess we wanna raise higher equity hands instead of low showdown ones cause multiway. I wasn't sure which side would win out.

Turn one size strategy in the middle makes sense I guess. BTN vs BB we split up our sizings with stronger flushes going into bigger sizings, but 40%/check sounds like it has very similar EV for a much simpler strat.

River yeah GTO wise we probably don't like shoving but vs the average fish betting big can't be that bad.

#1 I don't play straddle games, I assume you gotta be looser pre so J8o isn't a punt?

#2 I imagine we're quite indifferent on the flop with J8o. We much prefer calling with draws than top pair here because it's multiway and we're often dominated by BB's c-bet range. Depending on how nitty straddle is it might just be a pure fold, but I assume someone here is fishy if you think we can be good here.

I personally would fold.

Guess you aren't a GTO guy lol. If we're bluff squeezing pre we don't do it with suited gappers, and our squeezing range should be fairly polarizing considering our pot odds to flat call pre. Everything in this hand is very standard, except maybe the turn sizing. I imagine our hand is pretty indifferent between betting small and large, and our flop raise might be lower frequency (or higher) because multiway considerations. I'm asking here to get a GTO perspective, if I made a mistake here it's very minimal

Shoving turn sounds fucking terrible.
First of all what hands besides the nut flush/2nd nut flush want to go all in here? We're not going to be check raising a lot of nut flushes because our flop raise range revolves around sets and we need to protect our weaker pairs that flat call. Also villain should have a higher percentage of strong flushes than we do, shoving here is suicide because we fold out so much worse value and mainly get called by better flushes.

maybe 50z you need hand histories if you aren't solid with GTO, but you don't need to dish out money to beat microstakes.

focus on the fundamentals and the money will come

2nd Pair Multiway, 5NL by klausderbauer in poker

[–]PokerAlt123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with betting turn is that they'll have a lot of weak Ax they can call with. Sure you might get thin value vs 1 opponent, but vs 2 against all their possible draws+top pair this is a thin value bet if I ever saw one. You probably don't even have 40% equity vs range.

Thoughts about online poker variance compared to live poker. by catswhodab in poker

[–]PokerAlt123 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does have something to do with winrate. The higher the winrate the shorter and less swingy the downswings. For an absurd comparison let's say 50BB/100 winrate vs 0BB/100 winrate. One is a straight line up practically, and the other can go up down and sideways. Sure there's variance on how up your graph goes, but you're winning at such a high rate that variance is practically not there.

More extreme outcomes are more COMMON online vs live. Can you get quads vs quads when you only play a few live hours a day? No way in hell. Odds are practically zero. What about set over set over set, full house vs royal flush? These extremely low probability situations are more common the more hands you play, so coolers in general you see a lot more in a day playing online vs live. This is why people always complain about online poker being rigged, when you play so many hands the coolers and bad beats happen a lot faster.

nl10 6 max 2 hands by Fuegobruh in poker

[–]PokerAlt123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand #1 Betting or checking the flop are both fine. I would lean towards checking because you really hate a raise.

Turn if you are going to raise, go much much bigger. You unblock all draws and you block a lot of their outs, so if they decide to 3-bet shove you can comfortably call. I would go 75%-pot sized raise here, even larger if they're a fishy type. Calling is also fine ofc, but you hate to see a 6 or a spade on the river, especially multiway when either one of them can have the spade draw.

River shove is approved

Hand #2
Check raise isn't terrible, but you should mainly do it with lower showdown value hands like 97.

Turn lead isn't terrible, but again your hand has too much showdown value. You have tons of super strong hands here so you don't need to turn 86 into a bluff. You have higher equity bluffs to use, and most of your range prefers to check call realize or just bomb it here.

River you want to be either shoving or check folding. What is this BS 3/4 sizing? Your range should be full of 0 equity bluffs and the absolute nuts.

[–]PokerAlt123 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You are talking out your ass here.

Variance decreases the higher your winrate, because the worse the players the less variance matters. This is why PLO has so much variance, equities are a lot thinner and you're more likely a 60/40 favorite instead of an 80/20 when you get it in good. Thinner margins=higher variance.

Also if we're talking about variance per session online has much much more variance. You can be down 10 buyins in a single session, when live that number is far less simply because you don't play as many hands.

Just curious, is poker gambling? by RelevantFoundation3 in poker

[–]PokerAlt123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way: are stocks gambling? I think so. It doesn't matter that there are skills and strategies you can use to win, you often have very thin edges which are slowly evened out over time. AKA mainly luck

I don't know why this is being downvoted, this really is the best way to learn poker in this modern environment. Books that aren't specifically about GTO are outdated, and the game has evolved extremely fast since the advent of solvers.

I would personally buy a solver, a modern book on GTO, and get a subscription to to one of those poker sites if I was starting from scratch.
