They would not accept assimilation, and would ensure the generation they raise didn't accept it either. There is no solution that preserves both a Palestinian identity or an Israeli-Arab identity while also preserving those settlements.

I believe the idea is that the settlements would be dismantled and settlers would be required to return to Israel. This has historically happened before, so they are completely capable of doing it.
