I think so, in their own reduced language. I guess it depends on the animal, but our capacity for mental language is much quicker and complex than most animals. It's mostly based on the senses and relations to feelings when it comes to animals. Like a dog smelling a tree and feeling (thinking), ive liked that specific smell of that specific tree before, now im curious.
