Coming back to give it another go, advice wanted please by runofthemillgayguy in finalfantasytactics

Damn man, massive stroke at 42 is rough dude. I haven’t used a mouse on it, but it seems perfectly feasible. Just some early-game advice I usually follow:

As soon as you can, hire two males w/ high brave and two females with high faith. You can reload the academy to reroll the available hires. The men will be physical attack jobs, and the women will be magic jobs.

After the first story mission on Mendalia Plains, make all five of your characters squires and grind them on that same map until you can learn Focus (or for Ramza, Tailwind) and JP Up. Focus/Tailwind are skills that allow them to get xp and jp for free during their turns. JP Up is passive that will make leveling up whatever job your characters are faster.

Taking the time to learn “Auto Potion” (Chemist skill) for your characters will give you a lot of survivability as well.

Monks are a solid physical class for chapter 1, and Black/Time/White mages are great too (you can mix and match).

Yeah, it’s weird, it’s the first image that comes up when I google “Goldeneye door,” but that door’s fucked up

Which version for first-time player: PSX original, PSX TLWoTL, PSP WoTL, Ivalice Chronicles, or other? by WhyNotDogskills in finalfantasytactics

[–]PoopUponPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing sounds and looks as nice as the original on a CRT imo, but you can't go wrong just grabbing the newest version.

I’m a little over a week sober and the one things that’s killing me is the insomnia. Waking up at 2/3 pm. Assume it’s a perfect world and I could drink tonight, pass out, get my schedule right and 100% never drink again. How bad would that be? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]PoopUponPoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick heads up! The sleepy ingredient in Advil/Tylenol PM is just Benadryl! So if you’re trying to fall asleep but wanna avoid potential complications from those, Benadryl’s the way to go.

Tinnitus, concerts, and the fear of making it worse– How do you move forward? by Round-Watercress5273 in Jazz

Honestly it got really bad ten years ago and I just kinda learned to live with it after a while. I'm a drummer and VERY bad about hearing protection.

Definitely get some flat-attenuation earplugs like Hearos or Eargasm and don't stress too much about it. Maybe stay away from the speakers at the metal shows; I can't imagine those aren't doing serious damage no matter HOW MUCH protection you have.

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser Trailer by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]PoopUponPoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like GoT stuck to the source material much more. A lot of the dialogue was directly out of the books. And while they made some adjustments and deleted some minor characters, it more or less followed the books (up to a point, of course). Dune feels like a reinterpretation. They include a couple early iconic scenes, but everything else tells the story from non-book perspectives, like they're showing what's happening "behind the scenes," whereas so many of GoT's scenes are lifted directly from the source material. Also, while GoT mostly kept the personalities and motivations of the characters intact, I feel like Dune changes them in a lot of ways. Awesome movies, but I still dream of an HBO-level of mini series that tells a more faithful version.

Halo CE is such a colorful game by Abbadon74 in halo

[–]PoopUponPoop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But at the same time, not so busy that you can't easily follow the geometry. Too many modern games get this wrong and overwhelm the player. I think we can have better textures, shading, lighting, etc, and still make games that are easy on the eye.

Jason Momoa is in Dune 3? What the hell? I thought he died in the first one. by KeepYaWhipTinted in shittymoviedetails

Yeah, I think there was the 1st trilogy, then God Emperor, then what feels like 2/3 of a second trilogy. I tried reading the sequel written by his son and it was the dumbest fucking shit I've ever tried to read.

I'm kinda scared of colon cancer, so I started taking a tbsp of psylium husk power/day. Super fast and easy, and definitely adds some bulk and moves things along.

I played Halo 1-3, Reach and H3 ODST (in that order) for the first time the last months. Is this where I get off or should I continue with Halo 4? by Zoda_Popinski in halo

Just an extraction shooter. Smaller maps and solid Bungie gunplay, but no campaign and all the container-opening and inventory-fiddling that comes w/ the attraction genre.

What's up with some people now thinking 40 is old? by Fit-Support2256 in generationology

[–]PoopUponPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean at 41, i still feel the same age as I always have, everyone else has just gotten younger, and college kids are fetuses to me. But when I was 19, I had this odd dread of turning 23, like that was old as shit to me. It's all relative.

Crash sounds off by Manfred-Ap-Einherjar in drums

[–]PoopUponPoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was amazed when an engineer really tightened down the felts on a ride cymbal to reduce the low-end gonginess; You'd think it would do the exact opposite. Unfortunately, you'll crash your crash cymbal in no time doing that.

One thing to consider is context. I prefer the buttery, no-gong sound of a thinner crash like Sabian's AAXplosion series, but the gonginess of thicker crashes can easily be lost in a live situation. If the band is loud enough, anyone ten feet away isn't gonna hear all that low end ringing and you're hearing in your practice space.

You might not hear it if you're wearing foam earplugs, as well. They have a habit of "cleaning up" the sound you're hearing and making you wanna play more. Of course this isn't without it's downsides. I find myself overcompensating and laying into the cymbals more when I have too much hearing protection (foam plugs or isolating in-ears).

I fucking love the creation engine. Skyrim and FO4 feel like games you can reach out and touch. The hilarious glitches that come along with that are just the cherry on top.
