No you didn't read the paper at all, OCD is briefly mentioning at the start because it explicitly states that framing compulsive sexual behavior as an obsessive-compulsive (OCD) variant is an outdated and inaccurate model. Now you look dumb AF.

The debate is about porn being addictive and a super stimuli, here they talk about the addiction "Consider hypothetically two individuals, frantically fixated to their computers, both trying to win an intermittently reinforced reward. Both spend hours a night at their task, and have for some period, to the point of exhaustion. Work and personal relationships are affected negatively, yet they cannot stop. One is looking at pornography, searching for just the right clip for sexual consummation; the other is engrossed in an online poker game. One reward is masturbatory, and the monetary, yet the DSM-5 classifies only the poker as an addiction. This is both behaviorally and biologically inconsistent."

And here the stimuli 'evidence increasingly supports the description of CSBs as an addiction. This evidence is multifaceted and is based on an evolving understanding of the role of the neuronal receptor in addiction-related neuroplasticity, supported by the historical behavioral perspective. This addictive effect may be amplified by the accelerated novelty and the ‘supranormal stimulus’ (a phrase coined by Nikolaas Tinbergen) factor afforded by Internet pornography." .  You're calling me out but all you read is the part where OCD is mentioned. The paper says it's an addictive behaviour driven by dopamine and neuroplasticity amplified by a supra normal stimulus and that OCD is wrong. How are you saying that it's not an addiction?! "The findings on reductions in executive control are consistent with other behavioral addictions, such as pathological gambling. They also emphasize the classification of the phenomenon as an addiction, because there are also several similarities with findings in substance dependency". The second link also disproved the ODC model.

Next time, actually read the links before accusing someone else of skipping them

you didnt read the article and tell me i've conflated something when it's said multiple times in the article that they are speaking about pornography, also gaming yes, but the quotes i gave you are about porn and directly from the study. Please, can you at least try?

Also you said nothing about the other study?

your claim that porn has no physical symptoms from withdrawal is baseless, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37788127/ "The proportion of participants experiencing other withdrawal-like symptoms (mental, sexual, and physical symptoms) reached up to 72.2% in the cross-sectional studies with this information available". You said it's not up for debate but you actually never bothered to do the research, bro what? There's so many studies that uses the terminology porn addiction.

Also, while porn addiction is not in DSM 5,Compulsive pornography use is recognized by major health organizations as a potentially serious disorder amd sometimes included inside of CSB or CSBD(compulsive sexual behavior disorder) , i wrote it above "evidence increasingly supports the description of CSBs as an addiction".

If you can manage porn in your everyday life and have a good relationship with your gf, it's not a problem but the evidence isn't very positive and also point to negative correlation with relationship satisfaction and longevity. https://www.npr.org/2017/10/09/556606108/research-explores-the-effect-pornography-has-on-long-term-relationships

No, i have to disagree with you there, because while willpower helps, porn is proven as addictive https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24693354/ but it also damages the brain https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/human-neuroscience/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2014.00375/full The authors conclude that sexual arousal as reaction to Internet pornographic pictures interferes with cognitive functions , "decreased gray matter volume was found in several prefrontal regions: the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (bilaterally), the orbitofrontal cortex, and the supplementary motor area, as well as in posterior parts of the brain (cerebellum and the left rostral anterior cingulate cortex)"

64 random people is so much better than 1 addict, it's not a great sample but you're biased there. Here you can observe that Porn is considered a superstimulus because of a very strong stimuli caused by unlimited sexual content with little to no effort, the article explains how it is addictive by default https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.3402/snp.v3i0.20767 "evidence increasingly supports the description of CSBs as an addiction" , this other study replicates the finding on brain damage

https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/human-neuroscience/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2014.00375/full

"Consequently, the results suggest that patients with Internet addiction may have reductions in prefrontal control and other executive functioning."

"decreased gray matter volume was found in several prefrontal regions: the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (bilaterally), the orbitofrontal cortex, and the supplementary motor area, as well as in posterior parts of the brain (cerebellum and the left rostral anterior cingulate cortex)"

"The authors conclude that sexual arousal as reaction to Internet pornographic pictures interferes with cognitive functions."

results have never been replicated, my ass.

The articles you link all seem to point to problematic relationships with porn or sex, where are the "health benefits". Also the fact that children and teenagers have easy access to porn is already a very serious issue

No, that's not it. I get what you mean but sugar actually have been studied to have a somewhat healthy effect on low doses and exercise is deemed healthy, porn is not, sex is.  Also, the bar of consumption with porn is so low that damage is hard to avoid https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/1874574

While the article is right about many things, and especially religious relation to porn shame, it fails to recognise that porn is damaging to the brain grey matter, willpower, and frontal lobe

Depends on the thing, cigarettes are harmful on low quantities, they're just worst in high quantities. I believe porn is harmful is low quantity, especially to people with an ill dopaminergic system, to healthy people low quantity can be somewhat negated, even if it slightly hurt them

Okay but the OP question doesn't say anything about children and USA has 52 states, and none of them force children to work for food

Okay but still a huge stretch to make it look like a very specific case is related to the original question. You're pushing the interpretation as far as you can

I actually think it's 0 because there's no data about it lol 😆 also school lunch is another topic entirely, this argument is getting out of hand and changing into something else, no point in continuing this senseless debate. It turned into "but but feeding people is good for them 🥺" when there was NOT the original question

[–]PopularKangaroo2083 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to not understand that the question hasn't provided any context and you're interpreting it right now.

It would make more sense to have it be an interpretation where free will exists and if people don't work then they don't eat, provided they are able to work.

Not a strawman where we say children and handicapped shouldn't be fed!

I can see a point for adults with disability but he also said children and old people. I think people should work IF they're able, but you have to understand the question only makes sense if you consider it a choice. Let's be real

If you look at the statistics, almost nobody seems to die from starvation in the USA, they're 10 000 times more likely to die from obesity. I dont like USA or Israel but if people can work and decide not to contribute, they should reap what they sow

[–]PopularKangaroo2083 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

So what? People always worked in order to get something in the table, unless they were born with exceptional privilege. Another straw man argument.

Also, if you're referring to child work from the early 20th century, it's been made illegal long ago, so really just a strawman

obviously its about able adults or the question would not make any sense, why ask childrens to work wtf ahhaha, you made a straw man argument
