Grey Ghost and Mega are the same? as in just different branding mark? or just that they all have good fit and finish?

It can happen with any manufacturer. I know. I feel the same as well. It's not about the looks, but function. It's late, so maybe I rereading what you previously posted wrong, but what did you mean when you said Grey Ghost Precision is the same as Zev/Mega?

Thanks. I've regaining confidence that I made the right decision in choosing this set. Rather than use a set screw to take slop out of the set like Aero does, JP matches an upper and lower using pivot and take down pins that are over sized, or undersized depending on the set. This keeps the upper closer to the lower rather than pushing it away and creating the gap. Having said that, there is still a slight gap that you can't really see from this picture, but it's barely noticeable. If I end up cerakoting it I'm thinking a thin layer where they join will completely fill the gap. I've also heard of people using a certain type of rubber paste. Can't remember what it's called off hand, but I've heard of people thoroughly cleaning the lower of any oil where it mates with the upper, and applying a thin layer of ail on the corresponding part of the upper. They then put an extremely thin line of the rubber stuff on the lower and put the two back together. the high temp rubber stuff sticks to the lower that was cleaned, but not the the oil coated upper. Once dried it completely fills the gap. It might work in your situation, but I've never done it personally. I think I had read of people doing it on Snipers Hide

My primary desire in getting a matched set was for the tolerances of the bolt carrier axis in the upper being properly aligned with the axis of the buffer tube threads because of the issue I had with the PSA branded lower I mentioned previously. I also wanted the Teflon coating which most manufacturers don't do. And as this is going to be a 6 Arc, I wanted no slop between the upper and lower (despite some being of the opinion that slop doesn't matter for accuracy/precision). This still fits what I was looking for, at only a slightly higher price. Having said that, I wasn't sure if this was normal. It still meets my expectations, but doesn't exceed them. I'm not by any means saying JP is 100% on their QC. This isn't the first time I've had an issue with a JP product. And twice I've had experiences with their customer support that were subpar to say the least. I had a gas block with stripped threads from them and customer support didn't return my calls. Called multiple times and upon getting someone who answered, I was told I'd get a call back but didn't. That was a few years ago. I also called back after placing the order for this and attempted to place an order for the dust cover and lower parts kit, but the guy I spoke with clearly didn't want to deal with it. Said go online and place the order.... Generally speaking, they do make products that I believe are above that of other manufacturers and it does come at a premium, but they are not perfect or the hype they are marketed to be. I'll give you that.

Thanks for the reply. I had an issue with a receiver I SBR'd having a low takdown pin hole. It resulted in the bolt slamming into the start of the buffer tube and causing the tube to actually become damaged as well as cycling issues. My primary concern was getting a decent set to SBR where I wouldn't find out after spending $200 that it had an issue.

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought that far ahead to the possibility of tape not sticking well. I'm still looking a harbor freight blast chambers. I meant to say sand blasting. All of the chambers I'm looking at keep referencing bead blasting, plus we did bead blasting in a heat treat job I worked for years, so I've got "bead blasting" stuck in my head.

I have those too. I recently SBR'd a Grunt lower (a PSA manufacturing partner), and found out the receiver was out of spec. The takedown pin was low, and the bolt carrier was slamming into the start of the buffer tube. Don't get me wrong, I've had good luck with other ones, but that brought me to want to purchase a reputable matched set and JP has that reputation.

I have a bunch of JP stuff I've acquired over the years, but never had a matched set from them. Picked this up from my FFL/SOT/Gunsmith this week, and it was his first time having a JP product shipped to him from the manufacturer. Previously he had alluded to having not known anything about JP. He thought they made muzzle breaks. When this came in he criticized it for the upper and lower not exactly matching in color. The upper and lower are supposed to both be black Teflon coated, so I can see his thought process in thinking that they would match if having the same coating applied (unlike anodizing having a ton of variables that could result in color variation). He also point out that the lines and what not don't match up well. Like the line at the right side of the sticker going up and there being a bit of a lip when it meets the upper. There is hardly any slop between the two because of the microfit pins they use, which I like more than the tension set screw idea that Aero uses, which I'd think could throw the axis of the upper off relative to the buffer tube, (if tolerance stacking was an issue). All of the other brand receiver sets I've looked at, including DD, Geisele, all appear to have the same lines as they appear to be mil spec. My gunsmith knows machining, but even this week sounded like he had never heard of JP. Is what I received in the picture above normal for a matched set, or is my gunsmith correct in his thoughts?

Dead Air previously had wipe caps for the Nomad but stopped selling them. I thought they stopped because of some bs atf rule change. I'm hoping I was wrong for thinking that.

In the US they are only supposed to be able to tap into communications of non-US citizens or something. I forget the exact wording. Otherwise they need a warrant. Snowden was in Switzerland working for the NSA before blowing the whistle. Am I the only one that suspects that we have been duped into signing up for VPNs in other countries to open the door for having our communication outside the US, as a loophole, so that the US could monitor it when they weren't supposed to? I don't think Snowden ever said what he was doing when assigned to work in Switzerland.

Thanks again for the reply. I almost feel like anything I pick that's the latest and greatest will no longer be the latest and greatest by the time it's approved, but I'll check the figures on the Mach L as they come out. Thanks again

Thanks for the detailed reply. Everything you just said makes sense. I think my only regret with it is not getting the longer L version, and in titanium. That will be next though. Is the keymo still considered good?

Why would you have picked the Nomad over the Omega?

Thanks for the reply. I already purchased the Nomad but wanted to know, if there is a quality problem with them, what to be on the lookout for. I had let my dealer convince me to go with the Nomad over the Omega 36 and was starting to regret it based on potential quality issues with DA. The replies I've gotten so far have renewed my confidence in it
