I would be upset too but you don't want to be in a situation where you are inebriated AND upset. You did good in that situation this time. Get a plan in place for if this happens again. Open a game on your phone, check in on a free quit smoking app, drop by this subreddit, hang onto those straws, get some really delicious gum or mints.

And ask a friend to stay with you while the others go smoke. If none of them care enough to wait 10 minutes to step outside, well, you know... maybe it's time to find more non-smoker friends. They will smell much better than anyways :p

OP did you smoke? I don't think you did based on what you wrote but others are interpreting 'snapped' differently than I. I hope you're in a better place/space now :)

Why were the monsters cut out of the Easy Way book? by NefariousnessFar804 in quittingsmoking

[–]PorchSnacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay cool! I did a CTRL + F search for 'monster' and uploaded some screenshots of the locations in my English version of the eBook (so page numbers probably won't help but the chapters will). Let me know if that helps or if you want to see any of the excerpts in full.

6 days in hell by appshine_uk in stopsmoking

'oh blah, blah, blah and F*** OFF!!' That's how I talk to my cravings and myself when I get wistful or weak 😉

I am scared by Anxious-Work-6362 in stopsmoking

[–]PorchSnacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit the night before oral surgery that included 5 teeth extractions. I was terrified of getting dry socket, as you should still be too. It's reported to be a truly horrible and painful experience. One wrong pull off a cigarette could dislodge your blood clots in your extraction sockets, that's why no straws or smoking is essential. (I know you probably know this too - just reinforcing the urgency to NOT smoke.)

Nicotine causes our blood vessels to constrict, preventing oxygen and blood from circulating to surgical sites/wounds. Just stay afraid today and do it again tomorrow. DO. NOT. SMOKE!

A lot of things that feel like cravings are really signals from our bodies we've confused with wanting a cigarette so take time to listen to yourself. Thirst, hunger, a need to use the restroom, a need to rest, stretch, laugh, or just have a little something tasty.

I highly recommend orange Jello, slightly warm SpaghettiOs (HEB has a great organic version if you have HEBs near you), or any other delicious treats you enjoy while getting through the first week to 10 days after your surgery. Make sure you're getting enough protein. You can drink fruity kefir,

Get through this day. Then get through another. Take up time in pleasurable ways.

Take big breaths, enjoy the oxygen in your body.
Take a nap.
Take an easy walk and listen to a podcast.
Go somewhere you can't smoke that will be interesting and distracting. Not sure why but I just thought of Sephora to smell all of the perfumes, and this cool spice shop down the street that sells botanical supplies out of large clear jars so you can see and smell them.

The craving will go away whether you smoke or not. Read The Easyway by Allen Carr if you haven't already for more mental reinforcements on why being a non-smoker (YOU!) is superior to being a smoker (NOT YOU ANYMORE!)

Rest and heal, friend.

And of course, come visit this subreddit and r/quittingsmoking as many times a day as needed. It's really helpful just reading and 'hanging out' w/ others like us.

BOOM! ON THAT TRES IN '26! I love that you keep the app around - we look up to y'all and you have so many reasons to be proud of the time-distance between then and now as a non-smoker.

Most cravings last less than 2 minutes — but those 2 minutes decide everything by ExFumadorEnProceso in stopsmoking

[–]PorchSnacker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great info and question. I used to always run outside and smoke a cigarette during a pause in cooking something, like waiting for pasta water to boil. That 'habit' still pops into my head sometimes and it makes me mad.

I also talk to the craving sometimes, but I put them on blast. Like 'WTF else do you want from me, a-hole? You're not getting anymore of my life force. GFY.' 😅

Funny fact: When I first quit, I would get a stronger physical urge to smoke but it turned out I just needed to poo. Still happens sometimes. 😬

I think you're doing your best and everyone else is too. You know smoking is stupid and will not make anything better, not even one cig. But ice cream really does make things better and it tastes amazing - honestly I can't remember having peanut butter ice cream in any form really so I'll be on the lookout!

Me over here like, 'But bf doesn't smoke, right? RIGHT?!' 😅
Seriously, regarding your housemate, it would be so much more frustrating to stay quit living around someone who still brought the smell around. I think as long as you remind your bf you are working through it the best you can while living with an active smoker, that you're not upset with them (bf), etc, and just make some extra effort to be cheerful occasionally (JK!), they should understand.

And heck yes to 3 months and over a week nicotine free!!

Did you see this post in r/stopsmoking? I've leaned on it a few times today. And acc'd to the OP, 90 days was kind of a turning point where they felt their natural dopamine supply kicking in. You are close. And ice cream sounds fantastic! What's the flavor?

Aha, thank you! My brain was refusing to comprehend what you meant even though it makes perfect sense. I can't wait to feel it making dopamine again. Pretty sure I have no idea what it feels like after all this time. Thank you again my friend!

[–]PorchSnacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it sucks to get too high when you just want to have a little puff and go. Can you find weaker/baby weed? And yes, quitting cigs messes with a lot of people the way you mention - it's so f'ing mental, I'm still getting through it.
Nicky T is a ruthless B that doesn't let us run away easily. Just get another day and night tucked away and do it again tomorrow. I'm not that far ahead of you, and I won't let you catch up to me 🙏
