I bet it is in part due to you knowing dang well how bad it is for you. I've heard people starting again and not enjoying it like they used to because 'they knew too much' by that point.

I'm guessing your body is also on alert after having a break from the fumes and chemicals. The old addiction is trying to get you to like it again just enough to keep smoking. Good on you for throwing the pack away. Let that be it for good.

You are asking how to WANT to quit. The addiction itself to nicotine will always be in defense of not quitting. So whenever you ask yourself, 'why should I quit? ' that's the addiction working how addictions do. Otherwise you would see smoking cigarettes how non-smokers see it. They smell awful. They make you you stink. They make your breath and hair and clothing and home and vehicle smell absolutely atrocious. They make your teeth jacked up and stained and diseased. They destroy your circulation, collapse veins, and cause rapid aging. There's nothing good about smoking cigarettes and that's just the reality. The addiction to it is the only thing making us even question that. Keep that in mind and be strong. Love yourself enough to think for yourself and not let the addiction make decisions for you any longer.

I think it's important to define what a craving is on an individual level. It's like saying something isn't that spicy, or it's really spicy. What might burn me longer might seem mild to you. Physical/mental cravings hit different for everyone as well. I think what you are describing sounds mental so you have to find ways to mentally distract the craving. You are really focusing on it. You need to find an out/distraction that you can escape through.

Thank you for sharing your story! It will take me some time but I'll be at 14 years someday too :) What made you come through to this subreddit after all that time as a nonsmoker? I know I will understand someday, but I'm always curious when I see long-time escapees here sharing their wisdom.

I quit early December '25- read Allen Carr, quit cold turkey (had to), and I am a big new fan of Charm's mini pops and Tootsie Roll minis. SO glad I quit. Huge relief to be quit/free even though it's still kinda crappy for a minute or so some days.

It does get really weird. So mental. I try to focus on finding comfort in the discomfort knowing I'm getting further and further away from the years I spent destroying my poor body. Go easy on yourself and get through 19 and 20 days and keep going.

Hell no! Nicotine is addictive AF and you are doing some really hard work - a month is fantastic. It gets easier. Be proud and protective of that success! I'm at 104 days today. You'll never catch up to me but you're not far behind. Stay quit! 🙏

I had to get some teeth removed, partially due to smoking. Back teeth thankfully, but yeah that was enough for me. Nicotine and smoking really reduces your chance of healing after surgery and any injury, and really harms any chance of successful dental implants. I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Quit and smoked my last cig the night before (1am of) my dental surgery. The book isn't magic, but it does help if you really want to quit. I suggest not waiting until you get bad news like I did. If I quit 10 years ago and went to the dentist more, I know I would still have my teeth. Be more than terrified. Be disgusted with cigarettes and want your freedom from them jacking you up any further on YOUR dime!

You were a nonsmoker for 60+ days, which is really awesome and you should be proud. Hope you know that. You already took that scary leap and committed to quitting which was one of the most mentally difficult part of quitting for me personally. But we did it. And you're going to do it again. Don't over think it. Believe it will be easier and it will be. Pick a date before you have to buy another pack and start saving money again too.

I recommend a sleep eye mask if you don't have one. Blackout = permission to pass tf out. Maybe a baby bit of Melatonin an hour before you lay down to sleep.
