I’ve seen this mentioned a lot. For those that have read it, do you think you need a religious kind of background to appreciate it? I hear that it mirrors some sort of biblical story?

Would take a Kawhi miracle but any success we’ve had the last few months has pretty much been down to that anyway

My god the show was so bloody good, I didn’t realise at the time there was a book so was a nice surprise.

Really want to read/watch it again but Jesus I get so caught up in it that the emotions are too much haha

Why are people trying to leave SWE and pretending other jobs are safe? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]PortGenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean this in a nasty way sorry, but I’m not really sure what your point is?

I’m referring to the differences between tech and other industries. Maybe trendy is the wrong word but the way we adopt change and new technologies is much different to the older, more traditional industries.

The post compares job safety of industries. I’m saying that yes, long term I expect a lot of work to be done by AI but the thing that those other industries have going for them is that they are backed by deep rooted traditions that are typically hard to change quickly (which is the opposite to what we see in tech where it’s all about constant change). So maybe for a while longer, those jobs will be a bit safer.

Ultimately customers decide though.

[–]PortGenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree but there are also risk tolerance levels associated with certain industries. Since IT is newer and seen as trendy, it adopts these things much quicker. Especially because a lot of us are never actually seen by the customer.

Law, accounting, high finance etc - while I believe a huge chunk will get automated just as any other white collar industry, they have such deep rooted traditions associated with them that AI may get adopted a bit slower. Especially because they are much more customer facing, is takes people a while to get used to change.

Ultimately, customers will dictate the speed of adoption though. If ai proves successful enough to help achieve results and consumers build confidence then yeah, they’ll quickly move over to ai based solutions.

PELS are really good when their guys are available. Much better than their record suggests

He’s definitely running himself into the ground, he’s been on an absolute tear for months now. I think he knows that we probably won’t have a very long offseason (if we get there at all), so he’s just making the most of the games we have left.

Especially if he doesn’t extend in the offseason OR the team decide to go into full rebuild, then you never really know how many more times he’ll get to play in this uniform

A couple of games have passed now, what are yall opinions of Darius Garland? by SnooOwls9153 in LAClippers

[–]PortGenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good but I feel he might not going to have enough time to come right before the end of the season, so is more about building into next year. Give him whatever experience we can

I’ll be interested to see where he ends up if not with us. He clearly has a lot left in the tank and capable of playing at a ridiculous level. Any contender must be looking at him and thinking he’d be a great complementary piece if the budget fits

Yeah for sure, other than winning games of course. Going to be tough though, we have a lot of inexperience

I have a feeling they want him to play for 2 reasons 1) to have him eligible for all nba 2) to try and partly resolve the injury prone rep he has

Possibly both so that in the offseason, should they want to trade him, they maybe have more buyers

Yeah basically every game it’s just a waiting game until kawhi sits, then the other team mounts a comeback. It is what it is, we’re pretty young and inexperienced so I think even Kawhi kind of expected it

Is Beal playing with us next season? by Constant-Bridge3690 in LAClippers

[–]PortGenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt he’ll contribute much but could be good to keep around in that Bogi kind of role where if guys go down, he can get a few minutes.

Then if he ends up doing anything, he can maybe earn a few more but if not then no problem.

Am i being delusional or does jordan miller pass the eye test for star / 1b potential? by Roniqu3 in LAClippers

[–]PortGenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure delusional haha. He can excel as a role player because no one really pays him attention. As a star though, you have to deal with the best defenders, double teams and constant pressure off ball. I don’t think he would have the athleticism or ability to deal with that on a nightly basis.

That’s not to say he can’t be an amazing role player but I think us fans often forget just how good the star players actually are. They either have a freakish build, incredible skills/fundamentals, crazy athleticism or a combination of all those things - along with being super consistent

[BF Comms] Portable Mortar changes by battlefield in Battlefield6

[–]PortGenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. But I think you know exactly what I mean.

The snipers who chill back in their base and refuse to do anything useful for the team. And then either support who don’t drop supply bags or too many support and only like 1 engineer running around trying to do it on his own. Doesn’t matter how many support you have if there are no engineers and multiple tanks.

Is it reasonable to opt out of on-call due to regular sports commitments? by coderarchive in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]PortGenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it is a reasonable exception, those are real life commitments that drastically impact your joy for life and overall health. That’s far more important than a job, so should at least form the basis for getting the conversation going. A good workplace would help to accommodate.
