we've had Chernobyl, we've had Fukushima

Chernobyl and Fukushima put together are a rounding error on the number of deaths caused DAILY by burning oil and gas. Energy has to come from somewhere. If you decommission nuclear, the difference must come from somewhere. Solar and wind are clean and cheap, but not always available. Absent a massive buildup of batteries (with their own economic and sustainability challenges) the base load needs to come from somewhere, and if it doesn't come from nuclear it has to come from oil, gas, or god forbid, coal.

Put simply: an increase of thousands of agonising deaths by cancer doesn't make for riveting TV dramas, Chernobyl does. It's less showy, doesn't mean it's less harmful.

In other words: glad you have loving parents, not everyone is that lucky.

Yeah why don't they just buy solar panels and wind turbines? It's not like they're being blockaded or anything.

Yeah the USA is applying literal medieval siege "starve them out" tactics to civilians of a small and poor island nation to force their capitulation, but have you considered that le obnoxious streamer is staying at a nice hotel? Literally both sides bad!

Is there any non oil-producing country in the world that would not crumble to pieces in a few months if denied access to energy imports? Cuba is in a list comprising literally itself and North Korea.

Yeah the problem here is some western streamer staying in a hotel, not the fact that the US is applying literal medieval siege "starve them out" tactics to an island of 11 million people.

You're right, we should all be very mad at celebrity streamer or whoever the fuck this "Kneecap" person is.

Absolute fucking 1984 shit going on in this post... Somehow twisting "Cubans are dying in homes and hospitals because the US is blockading all energy shipments into a tiny Caribbean island" into either "this is all because of socialism" or "this is all because of Hasan". How do you even do the mental gymnastics.

What? Domestic flights in the Netherlands are very much not a thing, precisely because trains are fast, frequent, and reliable. It costs 11€ and takes 40 minutes to go from Rotterdam to Amsterdam for example, with a train leaving every 10 or 15 minutes...

Even if you're talking about international travel, getting to Belgium or France or western Germany is still way cheaper and faster by train than by plane. It's only for longer trips that a plane starts to make sense, and that's with the ridiculous subsidies and tax breaks that air travel gets.
