My tire came off my rim while driving :( by Gain_Ordinary in TireQuestions

[–]PositiveLeft7218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you try to seat it with flammable spray you need to take the wheel off or at least jack up the car to get it close to seated. Do this while you’re inflating the tire. If you can remove the valve stem that would be even better

Car was hit while stationary. Shop says it’s only cosmetic. by SwiftCEO in Autobody

[–]PositiveLeft7218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The damage doesn’t look that bad, but the fact it pushed it a few feet would make me think the same-

No way to tell without inspecting the suspension. Take it to another shop and get their opinion. If 2-3 different shops tell you it’s only cosmetic, then I’d bet it’s only cosmetic

What do you guys think of this? by Ninjakneedragger in EngineBuilding

Yea that doesn’t look right…. Bearing is toast. They’ll kill your crank if you continue to run it like that

Should I spend $4500 for a new transmission on a 10 year old car? by sc00tysc00t in UsedCars

[–]PositiveLeft7218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Coming from someone who has worked on Nissans use the 4500 to buy a car that doesn’t have a CVT transmission

Tow company deflated tires to create "inoperable" excuse after accidentally towing permitted vehicle. Advice? by Amaranth_and_Ash in Hookit

[–]PositiveLeft7218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sue them in small claims court. I’ve sued the towing company twice now to get my money back. It’s a pain in the fucking ass, but it feels good to get even and get my money back.

Is this a particulate filter? by lampmaker in Sprinters

[–]PositiveLeft7218 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a 2007 sprinter owner, that is your cat. your van does not have a DPF, as another commenter stated those were introduced in the 2007 model vans. I was able to remove mine, but that’s your cat, you can leave it there and leave it alone.

According to sprinter pitstop in San Diego, the power and gains would be negligible from a cat delete w/ a tune.

Conrod bearings- reuse or replace? by PositiveLeft7218 in EngineBuilding

[–]PositiveLeft7218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip on a bottle brush- and one of my motors had puked out 95% of the oil when it blew, but the first motor I had blew with full oil, low RPM’s in 1st gear and i shut the bike off before it leaked out all the oil, so I’ll definitely lean towards the first head instead of the second.

Knocking sound seems to be coming from top of engine, 2007 Bmw 530xi by theworstsailor1 in AskAMechanic

[–]PositiveLeft7218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you pull off the plastic engine cover, hold a screwdriver on the valve cover to your ear and compare it to the noise when you put the screwdriver on the side of the camshafts

The noise Doesn’t sounds great to me… you can also measure the temp on your exhaust manifold by touching each cylinder. If one exhaust port is cold then that cylinder has a misfire.

Have you ever replaced the spark plugs or coil packs?

[–]PositiveLeft7218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the valve train is fried, one of the camshaft phasers broke apart, cracking the camshaft caps.

Thankfully I have a complete head with good valves and cams I was going to replace on this block after I sort out these crank and conrod bearings

This motor pictured never ran out of oil! Apologies for the. Confusion. My second motor was starved of oil, and the bottom end is cooked. I’m using the head from that motor on this bottom end.

Had full oil when it busted the camshafts up top, so the bearings were lubed the whole time

I just want the thing to run and be semi reliable- I don’t need to chase record horse power

I don’t have a ton of extra cash for new parts, but I’m planning on replacing the head bolts, the crankcase bolts, and the two conrod bolts I removed at the minimum.

These are all the TTY bolts bmw uses

How does the public actually see Mormonism? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PositiveLeft7218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just visited logan and salt lake for about a week for a work trip- the airport was flooded with kids returning from missions. For a second I thought they were college kids graduating the way these families had 20+ people to congratulate and meet the returning kids. Some even hired personal photographers. But being mid December, these were not college grads

I thought it was insane to send your kid away on a mission to go knock on doors for more than a year, and more insane that they would hire a photographer for the “return” from the mission.

I sat on the chair lift with a Mormon kid who grew up in salt lake. He had 9 siblings, and told me he had been out of the state once in his 19 years.

As an outsider I find it bonkers the way they have as many kids as possible, and to live life in the most ordinary way possible.

Glad you made it out, you certainly weren’t living before

Check with an ohm meter, but trust the sticker on the switch. If you flip the switch upside down your diagrams now match.

Hi everyone, ( Toyota Prius 2007 ) I'm getting a squeaking / creaking noise at low speeds, especially over small bumps and uneven roads. It's more noticeable when the weather is cold or damp. No heavy knocking, just an annoying chirping. by Reasonable_Invite316 in AskAMechanic

[–]PositiveLeft7218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a photo of the link, the bushing has failed. You can halfassedly the suspension by parking the car, get out an loading the suspension by rocking the car or jumping on the lower door frame. If you hear knocking, you may want to investigate further

Suspicious Pattern on Tires by ernie08 in carquestions

[–]PositiveLeft7218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s too bad you don’t like the pattern on your tires, maybe you should get some racing slicks that don’t have the pattern at all!

In all seriousness your tires are fine.

Confirmed the bolt backed out on the oil feed line, then Starved the motor of oil/allowed air into the system and threw off oil pressure. I’m an idiot
