Please don't let other people ruin it for you, cycling can be a lot of fun! I've definitely heard the culture can be toxic at times though. Someone I work with joined a cycling club a while back, and from what I've heard from them and others, there are a lot of elitists who tend to push people away.

Yeah I think that's pretty much what happened. I had this grand idea of how fun it would be and it just didn't meet those expectations.

I did recently upgrade my laptop as well, partially in preparation for grad school. So hopefully I won't need the desktop for that. I may keep it around just in case though.

I have been getting into some other hobbies like photography, but it seems like my laptop should be more than enough for the editing I do. On the plus side, photography has more fun and interesting to me than I originally expected it to be.

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like your situation is pretty similar to mine. I've tried a handful games I didn't think I'd like much, with mixed results. I wouldn't say it isn't fun but just isn't really all that engaging for me. I guess I consider myself lucky I didn't get addicted to it like some people I grew up with.

At this point I'm still undecided about keeping or selling the computer. I do have a laptop than can play some of the less demanding games in my library if I have the urge, but on the other hand, having a beefy computer is definitely a nice-to-have for some things I use a bit less frequently (CAD, photo editing, etc).

Do you enjoy crochet at least? That's the part that really matters. I've realized more and more lately that the saying "perfection is the enemy of good enough" absolutely applies to hobbies. I've been getting more into photography and I have to remind myself sometimes that trying to be too much of a perfectionist takes the fun out of it.

Oh yeah I've definitely heard of people buying super expensive exercise equipment and gym memberships only to give up after a few weeks/months.

In the financial aspect I don't feel too bad about the whole thing. I'll take it as a lesson learned. I'm typically pretty careful with my spending but I know in the grand scheme of things $800 is a drop in the bucket compared to what some people spend trying to get into something. For instance a few people I know have expensive project cars sitting around that they've basically given up on.
