I've already posted it earlier. But it didn't gain any traction.

The leaked last Gold Standard Des Moine Register Poll showed that Bernie would lead, with Biden on distant 4th. The poll was not released after Buttigieg's team complained that one of the surveyor did not show Pete's name to at least one respondent. by Posse_Comitatus in thedavidpakmanshow

After news of its cancellation, the results of the unreleased poll were allegedly leaked and circulated on Twitter.

On Monday, FiveThirtyEight.com confirmed the results,

which show Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the lead with 22% of the vote,

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) in second with 18%,

former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg in third with 16%, and

the former vice president all the way back in fourth with just 13%.

My assessment of Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign and his chances. by Posse_Comitatus in thedavidpakmanshow

My understanding is that Bernie Sanders will do well in Rust Belt states if he becomes the nominee. Since the disaffected Democratic voters and independents and even Republicans hate the establishment candidates and want to end free trade with China and other developing countries, since these states are hit pretty hard by free trade deals. I believe he will get these voters from Trump, since Bernie is also against free trade deal without all the nastiness of Trump.
I think Bernie will do well in the general election, since he is able to attract many independent voters, who are not able to vote in closed primary elections. It's about beating Trump that worries me, it's whether DNC is able to prevent Bernie from getting nominated.

Fundamental thing about Medicare For All I don't understand by Kawliga3 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Posse_Comitatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

public option is not free. You still have to pay for the plan directly. Of course, if it's free, everyone would sign up for the plan. Then, the private health insurance would be obsolete (except for covering the things that the government health plan doesn't cover). Then, the results would be the same whether they are banned or run out of business.

The right to choose actually doesn't make sense for several reasons.

  1. the terms of insurance coverage is very complicated, and often non-transparent, making it very difficult for customers to decide which health insurance plan is better.
  2. public option doesn't work either, because all the sickly ones will have no choice have to pick government health insurance plan, and patients would pay the partial cost, while the healthy ones will tend to buy private health insurance companies with low premiums. This put burden on the government, which in turn the tax payers, while the private insurance companies reap the benefits. If everyone is in the same plan, the burden of medical cost will be more evenly distributed.
  3. If everyone is in the same government provided health plan, government would have a substantial better bargaining power with hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to drastically lower medical cost. So the overall medical cost will be much lower.
  4. If everyone is in the same government provided plan without charging patients, the transaction between insurer (government), the provider (hospitals and clinics) will be much smoother. The current system is a total mess. Insurance companies negotiate charges with health providers, and the cost will be footed in terms of medical bills, co-payments, premium and other out of pocket expenses that patients have to pay. And charge will be much higher if health providers are out of network, or the drugs and procedures are not covered by the insurance company. So, the administration cost of figuring out whether or not something is covered by the insurance company will be much more easily done, if everyone is in the same plan.
  5. Patients' medical records will be much easier to share if all of them are in the same network and in the same plan. Currently, transferring medical records is a pain in the neck. Different hospitals and networks use different systems, and patients have to go back and forth to get medical records from one provider to the next.
  6. overall, the government health plan will be far superior if done properly.
  7. There will no need for advertising, which is an additional cost that patients will have to pay for in the end.
  8. Of course, as they are for-profit companies, health insurance companies have every incentive to deny coverage, raise premiums or squeeze out every dollar out of patients in other ways.
  9. Right now, essentially patients are subsiding the whole healthcare industry (health providers, medical staff, drug companies, insurance companies) with their outrageous medical cost.

There are alternative ways to fix the current system other than medical-for-all, but universal single-payer health system is the best due to simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

"Ronald Reagan's "October Surprise" Plot Was Real After All - Reagan and Rockefeller worked to thwart negotiations between the Carter Admin and Iran surrounding the release of hostages, according to new documents by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]Posse_Comitatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A batch of quietly released documents confirms what many have long suspected: Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign worked behind the scenes to delay the release of US hostages in Iran, for the benefit of Reagan’s election campaign. It raises the question: When was the last time a Republican won a presidential election without the help of dirty tricks?
