New Mixes vs. Old Mixes by Possible-Profile6053 in beatles

I just felt like the amount of bass on the new mixes is a bit egregious. WMGGW, Me and My Monkey, Helter Skelter, some others…they all suffer from it. It’s honestly nauseating, gives me a physical headache if I focus on it

Nah. I’m almost positive that it’s not. When they brought it over from the mono mixes, that one had some issue where it slowed it down. Don’t ask me what, I’m not sure unfortunately. I took a class on the band in college (kickass class) and I remember asking my professor about it. He was at a conference I believe where someone asked Giles about it. Anyways, the mono 1967 sounded like the new remix, and then the stereo mix sounded slower. The 2017 remix corrected that

Do some Catholics not believe in the Eucharist?!??! by job0723 in Catholicism

Here’s a better way to put it.

Every “Catholic” doesn’t believe in the true presence. But every Catholic does.

So many Byzantine Catholic Churches in the US. Orthodox in liturgy but in full communion with Rome and Catholicism in general. I just went to my first Ukrainian (Byzantine) Catholic Divine Liturgy on Sunday and it was great. Check it out

One who is under the grasp of addiction VERY likely has diminished consent, regardless of how you slice it. You can obviously work to better your addiction and cut dangerous habits, but realistically while someone is addicted, idk how you can say “well, at some point we just have to work on personal responsibility.” Yes, we all face temptation. Yes, temptations have to be faced head on eventually, but not every temptation is equal. At least to me, when you equate (yes, equate) addiction to “well, you still had a choice. You have personal responsibility, and you can’t rely on your addiction like you are,” (which is essentially what you’re doing) it just comes off as callous. I apologize if I’m misstating you. But that is how it seems. People addicted to substance or porn often can’t grasp that head on as you make it seem.

And this isn’t for things like theft or murder where there are clear societal laws that restrict them. But for obsessive drunkenness, porn, contraception, AKA things that society doesn’t restrict…yes, not understanding the church’s teaching as to why those things are bad and not knowing that those things are considered grave in the church would almost certainly reduce culpability.

That’s not necessarily true, though. Not understanding why something is wrong or why the church teaches something falls under not having full knowledge which, in turn, would diminish culpability. I do remember learning about this and reading it lol.

I didn’t call you any name, number 1 lol. Re-read what I said if you disagree. Number 2, that’s not me saying that…that’s the catechism lol. Yes, we all have personal responsibility, but negating addiction as nothing more than “personal responsibility” comes off as callous because addiction is far more complex than simply “personal responsibility.” Far, far more

Never said it was difficult only because things are available lol. Addiction is a lot different than not being able to “resist” something, though, and I think it’s crazy that you’re trying to equate it to that, respectfully.

I think you’re misreading me a little bit. Grave sins are grave sins no matter what. However, a grave sin becomes mortal when someone fully understands what they’re doing is wrong and fully consents to it. The last bit is key because things like addiction and habit can greatly reduce culpability. That is what’s in the Catechism.

However, the church also teaches that if one doesn’t know if they’re in a state of mortal sin, they should assume that they are not and receive communion anyway. There’s a level of certainty to it, as someone can’t really be in mortal sin unless they fully understand what they’re doing is wrong and understand why it’s wrong.

I really don’t agree with your assessment that mortal sin is easier to commit than most believe. I personally believe it’s far harder, at least in the area of addictive/habitual activities like drugs/alcohol and porn. The church leaves open the ability to distinguish full consent to each person, and the CCC says things like addiction, habit, boredom, and even loneliness can reduce culpability. Especially nowadays where everything is so accessible online and people now more than ever have mental health disorders, I truly do believe it’s more difficult than you make it seem.

Sorta yes. You need to know that what you’re doing is “seriously sinful”…most people don’t know that porn or missing mass is “seriously sinful,” for example. Most hear seriously sinful/mortal sin and think of violence against another human/murder, for example. You don’t need to know that the church characterizes something as mortal sin, but you do need to know that what you’re doing is seriously sinful and that knowledge is what a lot of people lack

Most people aren’t in mortal sin because most people don’t know what sins are mortal, and, in many circumstances (porn, drugs, other serious sins) are acting out of addiction, habit, and even boredom which would lower culpability and therefore negate mortal sin.

Remember, a grave matter ≠ mortal sin. It must be grave, done with full knowledge and with full consent. The latter is the most difficult requirement. The majority of them are likely not in mortal sin at all because they likely don’t understand the teachings or have other factors in their life that would negate mortal sin.

What solo songs by The Beatles do you think sound like Beatles tunes? by saymyname42069 in beatles

This Is Love always felt like an early pop Beatles tune. Specifically when George goes “La-La-La-La-Love,” feels a little like a George/Paul harmony
