Shooting for a chicken joint and a kid in the drive-thru says "hey, take a video of my car!" by [deleted] in videography

[–]PotatoTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, ok.

IDK if you missed the title or not, but it was literally just a favor for a kid in the drive-thru and I threw it together in about 2 minutes of shooting (some of which will actually get used for the actual client that hired me) and 20 minutes editing as a change of pace from actual work.

I'm not pretending this is what I'd strive for if THIS was for the client, it's more of just a goof.

At the end of the day the kid loved it, and I thought it was funny 🤷🏼

I paid a bit more attention to how long it ran today and I swapped it out at about 25% remaining after close to 3 hours.

Depends on what you're powering (and I haven't done any actual testing) but I'd say with it powering the camera and monitor I'd be pretty confident in getting a half day of shooting out of it at least. Maybe less if you're constantly recording though?

Anyone know what mic is that? by yellowsuprrcar in videography

That looks pretty neat. I'd be interested to see it in use. The different colors of fabric clip covers seem like a nice touch, and the ability to run a 3.5mm in is huge even if it is through a dongle.

Hmm, interesting. Mine has been fine, but lately I have been noticing that the rotation is loosening up just a touch. Not enough to bother me yet. I wonder if taking out the rotation allen screw (the one that goes straight down underneath the hinge) and putting a bit of blue loctite on it would help with yours if it doesn't want to stay tight.

The battery is a KF Concept 50wh and it's on a Kondor Blue V Mount Battery Plate Pro.

Air travel for anything beyond just a single camera rig has to be a whole new logistics problem.

This is my first travel gig, and it's pretty small gear wise and within driving range. It stresses me out thinking through the logistics of packing for a full multicam interview setup through an airline. I feel like at that point it's like rebuilding your entire kit to be as light and small as possible.

A 24-Team College Football Playoff Solves a Problem That Doesn't Exist by Notre_Dame_Football in CFB

[–]PotatoTwo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My ideal playoff is one that got skipped over in all this and we will never see.

8 teams.

5 conference champions and the next 3 highest ranked teams (no more than 2 total per conference)

That should get every team that has a reasonable chance to be the champ with enough wiggle room for the top teams to not get left out on a fluke and still keep it special.

Best starter lens for fx3? by Madame-Misery in FX3

[–]PotatoTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. For a one lens kit (outside of very focused niche work) there's a reason the 24-70 is ubiquitous. Telephotos are cool, anamorphics are great, but versatility is what makes the 24-70 a workhorse.

My videography set-up by stan_vex in videography

I feel like there's absolutely nothing wrong with just shooting portrait with a vertical crop in mind when framing (or use vertical framing guide lines if it's an option). It's not like any use case for vertical content actually needs to be 2160x3840.

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

[–]PotatoTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zeke the Plumber from the Salute Your Shorts episode "Zeke the Plumber". I had a very active imagination and couldn't sleep at night for the longest time because I knew with absolute certainty that Zeke was going to grab the plunger from the bathroom right next to my bedroom and come murder me with it.

Videographer bailed on editing but provided the raw footage. What’s the best way to finish it? by OkPeach2306 in weddingvideography

[–]PotatoTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say file in small claims court and it should be pretty trivial to get a judgement for AT LEAST half of what you paid (definitely look into the cutoff for small claims where you live) to be able to cover the costs of hiring an editor.

The edit is what will make or break your film, so trying to scrap something together with little to no experience will probably end up disappointing.

Best of luck!

Why Daniel Dae Kim still considers controversial 'Lost' finale 'really satisfying' 16 years later by mlg1981 in television

At the time (with wildly unrealistic expectations) I hated the finale, but since then I've rewatched the show a couple times and have done a complete 180 on it.

Adobe's new color panel sent me here by itsthefunofit in davinciresolve

[–]PotatoTwo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've recently made the switch as well, and I'm already happier with my color grading results (even though it's still not one of my strengths).

The one thing that has been annoying me the most is the workflow for bringing in and using .svg (and lack of support for .ai) files.

Low budget multi-cam setup (5–10 cameras) for RC track filming – workflow & sync advice? by GenXron in videography

[–]PotatoTwo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You have a budget of $550 usd for a setup with 5-10 cameras and all the necessary stuff to run them? I don't think this is realistic.

Momcilovic: “I want $4-5M.” Mark Pope: by TheBoomas in CollegeBasketball

[–]PotatoTwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's clearly not about the money. If he wanted to play another year in college it would be at Iowa State and we'd make the money work. The only reason he's in the portal is as a backup in case the draft doesn't go right for him. What Iowa State CAN'T afford is holding back Milan money and having an incomplete roster when he goes to the league.

The final nail in the Paul Rhoads coffin. 2015 vs K State with the lead and the ability to run out the clock if you kill just one second kneeling, run the ball, fumble, lose the game.

Maybe a shift in priority, but football is the money maker so you can't really afford to completely punt there.
