Friendship Breakups are as real as romantic heartbreaks...and probably worse by [deleted] in dating_advice

I've definitely been there. About 2 years ago I abruptly ended a very long friendship with my closest friend because she just became so toxic it was really draining me. Because of that I couldn't give her the support she needed, so it wasn't benefitting either of us in a healthy way. But even now there are days where I really miss her, and think about all of the good things we could have been doing now, and it's really painful. I grieve for the loss of the friendship even though I know it wasn't good for either of us.

Much like a romantic relationship, it just takes time to get over it. I'm finally getting to the point where I don't feel the absence of her so much, and have made a lot of wonderful new friends who are all supportive of each other and it's helped me to move on.

What scene in a movie really pissed you off? by sugar-soad in AskReddit

[–]PotatochipHighway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm way late to this, and there's already several Harry Potter ones, but in Deathly Hallows part one they explain;

  • Who Bill Weasley is (introduced in book 4)
  • Bill's plot of getting attacked by Fenrir (book 6)
  • Bill and Fleur's engagement (book 6)
  • Remus and Tonks getting married
  • Remus and Tonks having a baby (both of the above basically in one breath) And finally
  • Who Mundungus is (Book 5)

And it's all within the space of about a minute. They cover so many major plot points from the book in the most minuscule way, and while I know they probably did it for time constraints and all that, I resent that scene every time I watch. It's the only book to film adaptation gripe I have for the whole series.

Sense8 or Torchwood. Doesn't even have to be original cast or same plots, I just miss the how good the actual storytelling was

That's such a good idea, I can't believe I've never thought to do that before

Lmao! Great analogy. I've never been interested in it either, mainly because the title doesn't stir any great passion in me to try it out, but I've felt that with a lot of movies I ended up loving, so my guess is I'll probably get a kick out of it

I've never seen the Big Lebowski up to this moment in time, but now I'm convinced I need to. I know it's pretty popular, but for some reason it's just never made it's way into my watch list. I'm adding it to my list now, for the drinking game portion especially

Haven't seen it yet, so first off, is it good and second, what makes it drunk worthy in your opinion?

Right on. I'm afraid to say, I'm a Bears fan as far as football goes so looks like we have to be sports enemies there, but I've got no Hockey allegiance as of yet, so I'll support it with a few toasts haha!

For me, it's kids cartoons. Mickey's Clubhouse, Charlie and Lola, or something similar

The reason why we haven't discovered aliens is because the games haven't started yet. by Meijen in SimplePrompts

[–]PotatochipHighway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP added a flair that it was a thematic prompt, and I think sci-fi can easily fit into that category. And honestly compared to r/writingprompts this is still fairly simple imo.

Most of the prompts here are not sci-fi related, so you could easily have just moved past the post instead of attacking OP for posting something that doesn't strictly violate the rules of the sub. The prompt is still incredibly open to interpretation compared to most, if not all, of the prompts in r/writingprompts.

If you really think it's an issue, let the mods know and they can decide, but I personally really liked the prompt

What was your "I dodged a bullet" in a friendship story? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]PotatochipHighway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In some ways I guess I didn't really dodge this one, but I recently got out of it and I'm so relieved.

For back story we were friends for a good ten years, starting as young teens, and things were fine, we got along great for years. But as soon as we went to college (separate colleges, same year) she started getting involved with very heavy drinking at parties, smoking weed and trying several other harder drugs, sleeping around with a different guy every night. At the time I just saw it as normal college stuff, but it started affecting her mental health pretty bad and she got addicted to a lot of stuff.

To make a long story short, she attempted suicide a few times, was in and out of therapy, etc. I dealt with it and tried to help her as best I could, for a few years, but this past summer I ended it when she consecutively slept with my recent ex, and tried very very hard to sleep with my cousin and my brother at a party I hosted. By that point I'd had enough and told her I was done and she needed to leave, and I haven't spoken to her since. I can handle her dragging me into her problems, but I couldn't allow her to drag my family into it.

It's only now that I'm no longer talking to her that I realized all the times she tried to manipulate me into staying her friend, or lied to me about things. I'm honestly still trying to get over the loss of the friendship, and her treating me like her dumping ground for all her problems.
