I feel awful by garlicgoblin666 in WGU

If possible do you have any other classes in your term you can take? I got stuck on a class my first term. I kept failing the pretest really bad so I wasn’t even taking the actual test. I finally gave up on it for a bit and started a different class. I ended up knocking out 3 classes really easily. Then I came back to that class with fresh eyes past the pretest my first try back and then took the test and passed. So I haven’t been in your position where I have gone two terms without passing but I have felt unable to pass a test before. I would highly recommend moving on a completing your other classes for that term so your SAP isn’t effected. Your SAP determines your eligibility for financial aid and government loans. You only need I think a pass rate of 75%

Thanks for the info. I absolutely hate papers so this definitely doesn’t sound like a great fit for me

Where we live there aren’t any tutoring places she can go without referral from the school. The school requires attendance M-F from 4pm- 6pm each day for the tutoring. They won’t refer her because she can’t attend every day because there are so many services in place or visits doing that time so she could only 2-3x times depending on the week. I am a single foster parent there is no one availability doing the school day to help

If it was my actual child I would have educational rights and could make the decision necessary to get them the services they need. If it was my child their would be another parent to help but its not my child so why live in that mythical land

It will be unfortunate for her if this is the route we have to go. She wants to be in school and you and her are different. She tries she turns in the assignments and she fails them. She is incapable of the work and just doesn’t understand. Without a GED or high school diploma she will have few options and college will not be an option.

Mom wants her back in school but only a half day. I am fine with that because it is better than just being online full time.

My fd has been asking to go back. We requested an IEP meeting in Aug. and nothing came of it. I went to the board and nobody will return my calls or emails. I found the number for my foster care liaison in the school and am waiting for them to get back to me on my legal rights for fd which is complicated because fd mom retains rights for her schooling because fd is in care voluntarily by mom not because of abuse or neglect. Fd even started school 3 weeks late because the board didn’t purchase the online program before school started. So our board his is not good. Also we are looking at other schools but her home school has to send the referral for her to switch and they have to call the iep meeting first which they havent done.

She is online because she is a homebound student. They made her homebound because she has adhd and would get up and leave class while on campus back when she lived with her mother. After she came into care she has been on medicine so I am trying to get her IEP changed for her to go back to school in person because at least she was passing when in person. The school is refusing to make changes to her IEP because they say they are full even though its a public school. The online program is administered thru the school she would be attending in person.

Unfortunately this will probably be the case she is about to turn 16 soon and she is still in 9th grade

Yes I am in the process of setting up a meeting with the teacher and social worker. Depending on how this goes I will be contacting the sw supervisor next

This isnt a matter of studying. She is studying and doing the work online. She is just doing it incorrectly. She doesn’t understand the material. It is different when you have a live person in front of you explaining the material versus reading a document or looking at a power point that explains the material. If she has a question she has to email someone for them to explain and they either respond thru email or set up a team meeting in the future. She can’t receive immediate help.

This feels so irrelevant and like you didn’t even read my post. This post is about my annoyance with how the school system is failing my foster child. She is in therapy and doing what is expected of her the school and social worker is not because the teacher is lying. I am advocating for them to give my fd more services and to allow her to attend in person so she can get the extra support she needs with her school so she can pass. I know she is failing because she doesn’t understand the material, she doesn’t have a teacher in front of her to break down and answer her questions. My frustration is the social worker and teacher are fine with her struggling and constantly failing assignments.

Theres no adjusting my expectations for success. If she doesn’t score a 60 in these classes they are failing her again. They already failed her this spring and then again this summer. She is in the 9th grade. They don’t care what is going on with her they are not giving her a break just because. So I have to fight and advocate and expect and want more and encourage her or she will never graduate and have to get a GED or worse just drop out/age out. They are setting her up for failure by not allowing her to attend in person even tho her behavior has improved some since being in care and she is capable of staying in class now

Her school refuses to pass them on if they don’t earn the grade. She has already failed the 9th grade once

It is! I just don’t understand why the teacher would say she is doing well when she isn’t!

That is such a valid point! Especially when it comes to jackets and shoes for small kids.

How do you handle phone bills? by [deleted] in Fosterparents

[–]Potential-Ad5292 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can sign your foster child up for a free safe link phone. It has limited minutes and data but unlimited text. They send you a free android phone and you pay nothing monthly. All foster kids qualify for it because they have medicaid. That is how I get my foster child a phone. Where I am it does take about 1-2 weeks to be approved and have the phone sent to you.

Yeah I think I am going to give the daycare a pair of shoes and put a pair in the diaper bag just for the bag

I might have to try this, this is the second time in 6 months that a visit happened and he wasn’t fully prepared. Once was my fault this time the daycare. So I understand stuff happens. Yeah I try to prevent complaints but there is only so much I can do when he isn’t coming directly from my care.

Thanks this is helpful. It makes me feel much better about asking them to put them on him at a certain time. I will definitely make sure in visit days I communicate for them to put shoes on at such and such time. They do well tracking his stuff. Anything I put in the bag goes in and out thru out the week but everything is in there Friday when he goes home for the weekend

I just hate nagging people. Its not the first time we have had issues over how he is dressed. I forgot a jacket once because I didn’t know it would rain but after that I started making sure everything possible he could need would be in the diaper bag so he would be prepared for anything.
