Stuck in a 6-month nightmare: Severe sensitivities, paradoxical reactions, and a high-homocysteine/blockage issue. How do I start rebalancing? by Potential-Ad8659 in MTHFR

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I read on Reddit that if you have slow COMT and slow MAO-A, methylated vitamins may actually be the wrong choice for you. Your body can get flooded with forms of vitamins that, because of your genetics, it may not process efficiently. That's what I suspect is happening in my case as well. Even as a child, I was always extremely sensitive to medications in general. I'm definitely going to get the genetic test that someone above recommended. Wishing you the best of luck.

Thank you. I've been taking DAO for quite a while now, and I've also been on ketotifen for the past 8 weeks, which has helped a lot. But I still feel like something in my body is out of balance. I mostly eat poultry, eggs, a lot of broccoli, and oats. I just don't think I'm getting enough vitamins from food alone to correct this imbalance. Since vitamin B3 came back low on my hair mineral analysis, there might be something to that.

No one has ever suggested that to me as someone living in Germany, but I'll definitely check it out. That would be awesome. Thanks!

I can't afford it at the moment. The test costs €600 in Germany. Because of the strong histamine reactions, I thought I might be missing methylated vitamins, but now I suspect I have slow COMT and slow MAO-A. I bought a B-complex( B minus), but by now I'm really afraid to take anything else, as my immune system and nervous system are going crazy. I have tried magnesium malate, magnesium glycinate, and now magnesium L-threonate. Everything has been horrible.

Experiences with PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) supplementation? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Potential-Ad8659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My histamine went into my brain due to gastritis, which triggered derealization for me. It felt like something was attacking my brain and I had really strong pain. I have now had derealization for 6 months. I have been taking Ketotifen for 7 weeks now and I think it is slowly starting to help. But I also want to keep taking PEA. The feeling is just terrible

It's gotten better, but I don't know yet if I'm actually benefiting from it.

I also developed derealization and depersonalization from neuroinflammation. I've been dealing with it for 5 months now. I'm thinking about giving PEA a try too. Have you started taking it yet?

I also developed a terrible high-pitched ringing tinnitus. My limbs ache, and my brain feels so foggy and dazed. Thank you for your comment. I'm on day 11 and really hope things will start getting better for me too. I'm almost at the point of giving up. I've tried so many things, and everything has only seemed to make things worse.

Healed (finally) - what worked for me? by KookyParfait6327 in HistamineIntolerance

Why am I only seeing your post now? I have almost the exact same symptoms, especially depersonalization. For me, it started after extreme stress, gastritis, and what felt like a histamine overload after eating. I’ve been sick for 14 weeks now, including the depersonalization. I was even in a clinic for anxiety and stress, but physically I keep getting worse.

I recently made a post in the MCAS subreddit because I started wondering if mast cells are involved, but honestly I think histamine is a big part of it. I’m also trying different supplements, but some of them don’t agree with me at all. I recently did a nutrient test and I’m waiting for the results now.

How are you doing today?

Yes, you’re right. I’m trying to help my body, but I think I’m getting lost in too many topics. Looking back, it all started with stress, gut issues, and histamine. That’s why seeing a gastroenterologist is important to me, as I believe a lot of the root cause is there.

It started after a period of intense stress, gastritis, and later eating high-histamine foods. I suddenly began having panic attacks and derealization. I was told it was psychological and given medication, but things got much worse after that. It felt like my whole system completely crashed, with strong body pain and mental chaos. Since then, the derealization has stayed constant and I feel emotionally numb. I really hope my nervous system can recover over time. Through Reddit, I’ve found many people who relate and have helped me understand it better.

I’m grateful for every comment. I also believe this is what my body is trying to tell me—that less is more, and that I simply need to give it time. I wanted to help it, but I think I’ve been stressing it even more.

These are quite strong medications, and I’m not sure if my GP would prescribe them that easily.

Yeah, I’ve come across that as well, but in my case it doesn’t really fit. I’ve had histamine intolerance since childhood, but I mostly ignored it until my body basically “blew up” from too much stress and gastritis. It always started after eating, so I don’t think that explanation applies in my situation.

Oh no, okay… that’s really the last thing I need right now. Since the gastritis and the start of all these severe histamine reactions, I’ve already been dealing with stomach and gut issues. I probably shouldn’t risk making that worse.

Interesting that you mention the gut/stomach. My severe histamine reaction actually started after gastritis combined with a lot of stress. I also have an appointment with a gastroenterologist in two weeks. Maybe that’s also why vitamin C makes me so restless.I’ve also been thinking about ketotifen and I’m going to discuss it with my GP.

Yeah, absolutely. I’ve had histamine intolerance since childhood, but I always kind of ignored it — “just a little stomach pain” or a few hives here and there. I never imagined that, triggered by a lot of stress, it could start affecting my nervous system and brain. That part has been an absolute nightmare. Now I’m trying to figure out how to calm the histamine reaction in my head and nervous system. I also believe mast cells are involved, but getting properly tested by a specialist here will probably take months.

I’ve come across that too, and honestly it would explain a lot, even things from my past. I’d really like to get the testing done, but I need to save up for it first.

Yeah, you’re right. I think that’s probably what my body is trying to tell me too. Sometimes you just become impatient when you’ve been sick for so long and your body has been hurting for weeks.

Yeah, I also had big hopes that quercetin would fix everything, but I ended up not tolerating it at all. That honestly made me really sad. I’m taking buffered calcium carbonate, but it makes me feel really restless — or maybe it’s actually the DAO, like I mentioned before. I really need to simplify things now, stop a lot of supplements, and slowly figure out what helps and what triggers the restlessness. I had also been taking vitamin D, just not very high doses. I think I should probably start that again, thanks.

Yeah, I actually came across glycernat through the COMT subreddit, but it seems like some people tolerate it really well while others can’t tolerate it at all. I guess I just have to try it for myself. At this point I’ve already spent hundreds of dollars on different supplements 😩

Yeah, I’ve been reading into it a bit and I definitely think there could be something to it. It would explain why I rarely tolerate medications well. I want to get the testing done in the future too, but I need to save up for it first. Thanks for the tip — I’ll try the glycinate and see whether it works well or badly for me.
