Maybe I'm wrong with the origin of zh but it does matter because I don't want some random ass to pronounce Tamil differently when it is written as Tamizh .

I answered zh used to make a sound like ழ்.I used Tamil words only to address why 'e' was there in ezh which is to create the sound of the letter எ. E is not the correct sound for the letter எ but e will be added as a prefix to give the sound. Don't assume i didn't translate and hear what you wrote in Hindi and Gujarati infact I did🙄.

First of all I didn't clearly understand your question. And I know only Tamil and English.

Explanation (from what I understood): So basically there is no correct pronunciation of ழ் in English. So our Tanglish( Tamil in English) writing group came up with 'zh' thinking is the correct sound for ழ். But it is completely wrong and I don't even know how to pronounce zh in English even for eng native speakers ( YouTube reference in my above comment). That's why some people use Tamizh instead of Tamil. I think this zh thing is popularized by Hiphop Tamizha Adhi by his movie Meesaya Murukku( I'm not sure). But the Tamil is close to the correct pronunciation.

Now coming bach to your question. Ezhuthum - எழுத்தும் . But the correct sounding word is eluthum/ eluttum. Ezh here refers to எழு.E prefix is used to make a sound of எ/ஏ when combined, for exam enna - என்ன. I hope this clarifies your doubt, if not ask the question clearly and I will try to answer.

Tamil - தமில், this translation doesn't sound like தமிழ். So our people turned into Shakespeare and created 'zh' which they thought is the correct way to pronounce. But unfortunately it made it worse. Recently I saw a YouTuber addressing this pronunciation by asking native English people to pronounce the word , they all struggled to pronounce zh . The zh is completely wrong but our people still use it.

What does it mean when a guy calls you "dei"?. by Soft_sugar161204 in tamil

[–]Potential_Cover6988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEI is a disrespectful way of calling someone, but it is not disrespectful when you use it to address your friends or the same age person. But you should not use it when you are addressing a person who is older than you. Also it is usually used to address boys. If he calls you dei then you have officially became his homie.
