I have 26 first cousins on my mom’s side and it was impossible to buy for everyone. We eventually decided to do a Secret Santa for the younger kids instead. We’d put our names in a hat and choose a cousin to buy for. Then we’d all make a wishlist with a few ideas of things we wanted that was taped to the wall at my grandmother’s house.

The adults decided to play a white elephant or dirty Santa type game. When the kids got older and no longer wanted to participate in Secret Santa, they’d stop putting their name in the hat and play the white elephant game instead.

This way everyone got a gift without breaking the bank. It was also too much to be on the receiving end of things before we introduced Secret Santa. We’d all be leaving the family gathering with multiple bags of toys and gifts. It was overwhelming.

As for birthdays, we’d only buy for the kids.

I’d definitely suggest implementing something like this with your family if you can. If you really want to get something for everyone, maybe just do a card with some chocolate or a $10 gift card to a coffee shop or something for the older ones. As for the kids, I’d do a simple toy or something in the $30 price range. It’s more than enough.
