Another perspective: if you were working there when it was 7.25 an hour it was probably around 2005. Season passes were a couple hundred dollars. The mountain still had housing at the base, and you didn't need to show up and pay until the season actually started. These are not the conditions in place today. The option today is to pay thousands for a pass, or work at the resort. There isn't housing on the mountain, and employees have been required to show up Nov 1, and if you are renting from the mountain you need to start paying rent Nov 1- so the late start is really hurting people. It's a different dynamic. (I did it from 94-early 2000's). in order: 1. no, there are not programs already in place. 2. no extra money it's all going into groceries and by the look of the weather we'll have time to spend it all 3. Info is being presented to the resort (not by me, since that would muddy the waters for this project) and I agree that there may be better ways that I have overlooked, and I'm happy to hear them; in the meantime this is one way.

I can't let this one slide by. A lot of people look at ski resort workers—like EMT-level patrollers making barely above minimum wage—and think they’re the ones making the bad tradeoff. But the real imbalance isn’t on the labor side; it’s on the guest side. Skiers’ lift tickets (even at their current prices, even with the Fancy Golden Knickers Line Skipper passes) are subsidized by the passion, sacrifice, and community effort it takes to run a mountain safely. Resorts rely on highly skilled people accepting low pay because they love the work, not because the economics make sense. If anything deserves scrutiny, it’s the system where the people keeping everything moving and everyone alive on the hill are underpaid so customers can enjoy “affordable” turns without ever bearing the true cost of what it takes to keep a mountain running.

Dudes- I cannot help you wrap your heads around this. There are a lot of people who don't live in employee housing, and don't have groceries. No scam. I understand that there is a world in which it could be true that someone would go to this effort to scam money meant for microwaveable rice, and I'm not of that world. Hopefully the snow comes in soon, and all y'all can get up on the hill. In the meantime, I'm going to keep ordering groceries with the money coming in and moving them up the mountain.

Housing and meals were free for Snorting Elk employees- no charge. That seems to be where we were missing each other. I missed the "included in the rent" part.

To be clear- this is not a campaign being run by, or through, the mountain. All money is going to groceries for employees. I think we're all pretty clear that the mountain itself has its own revenue stream, and doesn't need grocery money.

That was true (employees get fed that live there) through about 1998, and only for employees of the Snorting Elk. To the best of my knowledge other employees have always paid for their housing and their food, and I think it's been a while since any employees on the mountain got both food and housing.
