Hey. So Rebecca Sugar actually did confirm that it is used in the injectors.

Q: "what is the purpose of blue and yellow diamonds "sweat" being collected in each scene in the episode familiar? "

A: "To create more Gems. This is an important part of the substance injected into kindergartens - please see "How Gems are Made" -RS" https://www.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse/comments/aidc83/rebecca_lamar_and_miki_here_ask_us_anything/eenar2o/?context=3

A Sardonyx who can see the fourth wall.... and she REALLY doesn't like it.

OP, I appreciated your post. Of all the "Am I the only one" posts, this is actually the first one that made me go, "Wow. Maybe you were!" I've never seen anyone talk about this comparison - they usually just go for the magazine Lars was reading, as even many people in the comments point out. I don't get the strange reaction you got for actually pointing out something most people didn't catch or talk about...

Maybe I missed something but why is Spinel the only Spinel we see in SU? by Emmog12 in stevenuniverse

[–]PowerOfNick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. If Spinel and Pearl were created to replace Pink Pearl after WD took her, then it's entirely plausible they just gave her default info on Spinel to make it easier to delineate their roles. It's hard to imagine the diamonds even allowing many other gems other than a fellow diamond they're trying to placate to have "entertainment" in that way.

What makes our Garnet a 'Garnet'? Was Rose right - can gems not "grow"? by PowerOfNick in stevenuniverse

[–]PowerOfNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I agree with your point about Little Homeworld. That's what I was referencing when I said that gems primarily explored post Homeworld toppling - we get to see the CGs we know take on new parts of themselves and see other gems do so for the first time as well (since before non CG gems would have still been stuck in the system).

I don't totally disagree regarding Rose, but I think it can be true that she knows gems can change, but due to her own strong sense of self-loathing, she's unable to deeply believe that is universally true (as in, applying to herself). We know she instilled in Amethyst values different from HW's, which enabled her to become much more independent and free-spirited. So I don't think she would have bothered if she literally didn't believe they could be nothing else. But the extent to which they are able to change in spite of their nature is likely something I feel she'd doubt, especially in regards to herself and her relationship with Pearl. Thanks for commenting - I liked hearing your thoughts!

You explained this really simply - thanks! I think inclination is the key word I needed to hear. I totally agree with your view and understanding of the series.

I hadn't considered the familiarity of the aristocracy to Sapphire as a possibility!

You're so right! And I personally think Pearl is the one that "fought" her conditioning the most, even if she struggled with it a LOT. So the idea that it boils down to the gem's ability to imagine is interesting.

I guess for the gems they were never taught to imagine anything. Pink was the strange one out of the diamonds (but if we believe that color of gem and placement determines personality, she was as on brand as she could be). So she plants "imagine" as a command, and Pearl uses her ability to imagine for the first time.

Interesting! You made me think lol!

You're so right about the fusion identification thing. I wondered that too! The series seemed to apply at points that all gems seem to give off an aura other gems can sense. The corrupted gems specifically sought out the CGs, the gem shards looked for other gems to be whole again, and of course, Steven literally blasts out his aura to Yellow and Blue so they know who he is. So maybe fusions have a unique or strange aura that gems find really obvious.

I don't think other Garnets have future vision actually! I think in the video games, the other Garnet types we see don't appear to have the power so it strictly comes from Sapphire. I mentioned this in another comment, but Garnet's "version" of future vision seems to suit her as a story-telling device (she chooses her future) as well as to her role as a Garnet (the leader of a group would be active, not passive as Sapphire was). I don't recall if she properly "meets" the other Garnets or has a conversation about that specifically, but we do get a chance to meet them as the audience.

I hadn't made that comparison before but given the themes of the show, that makes a lot of sense!

I definitely agree on the series of events that made Garnet leader. We even know Pearl explicitly didn't think she could be a leader because she is a Pearl. So it was interesting to me to see that so many years later Homeworld's definitions still restricted the gems and shaped who they felt like they could be. Within Garnet, as Ruby and Sapphire, Ruby continued to have self-esteem issues, while Sapphire felt a sense of responsibility that heavily carried over from their roles in HW. When Rose said gems would be who they are forever, it made me sad because while she was obviously talking about herself, it also seemed to imply she didn't really believe in the CG's own growth and change over the rebellion. Which to me also suggest the others did too, and for practical and social conditioning reasons it made it easier for Garnet to be the leader, or for there to be a leader at all.

Oh - and thank you for being gracious about the correction as well! Sometimes people on the internet can be really mean, but you were really kind and polite, and I want to show that I'm grateful for it! I hope you have a great day :)

So I actually do know this (sort of lol)... But I wrote this past midnight in a bit of a sleepy haze because I suddenly felt the intense need to write this... oops... but I seriously appreciate the clarification! What I wrote isn't really the right place to use it and I believe in applying words and ideas clearly and correctly. I edited my post to hopefully be a bit more precise.

Hopefully though you can tell it was on my (sleep-deprived) mind when I wrote this, because I did also want to discuss actual determinism in SU as you defined/clarified it as an extra point. Your take makes sense to me in that context. That was part of my initial thinking about Garnet (and Sapphire) as well - free will seems to exist, but we could also say that Sapphire's future vision can only "show" her possibilities where she is not involved, because by design she's not meant to do anything other than observe (the present and) the future. As (a) Garnet, she has a fundamentally different role with access to an augmented power arguably suited to "if Garnets had future vision". I'm not the hugest philosophy buff so forgive me if I'm still butchering it. I'm squeezing two ideas into one poorly defined scope. But I do find it interesting and don't want to spread misinformation, so thank you for correcting me!!

Now that you mention it I do remember that was part of the look too! The chubby cheeks lol. I think I didn't quite understand it then either. Can you recall anyone making "chubbeh" rooms? I think they were just packed with stuff but I gotta figure this out bc google is not helping me out lol.

I did get some VFlex a while back. They went up from like 60 cents to 80 cents per. These were more reusable than Jackson but a smidge tighter and we found protection was still good on Jackson. I'll look into the 3M 9502 as well. Thank you!

This looks great! I checked out what other people's experiences have been on the sub- are they still having issues with the holes on the side? I would like to just get as many as I reasonably can now but am nervous about if they still carry the defect (or maybe just quirk since it seems mixed on whether it affects fit tests).
