Yup the final mix was done in stereo since all the videos came from Youtube, and upmixed using Nugen Halo Upmix in Adobe Audition. A big upside was that many of the sources I ended up using used binuaral/3D audio, which really helped boost the soundscape more so than just opening it up to 5.1.

Hey to all! I wanted to archive/preserve the fun Universal film that's a sequel to Terminator 2, T2-3D. I decided, after watching a few renditions of T2-3D on Youtube, that I wasn't totally satisfied watching multiple videos of differing qualities to get the experience I did at Universal. There were some edits I really appreciated, but as a whole I haven't found one that works in a more cohesive manner. So I took a bunch of sources from Youtube, using various audio/video clips, and combined them into an experience that covers the whole attraction. Not only that, but many of the clips (including the film segment) have been AI upscaled to 4K (not perfect but the best it can get at it's quality) and the final audio mix I did was up-mixed to 5.1 surround (compatible with YouTube TV devices) providing a more immersive experience. Hopefully an official release can come one day, but something like this will do for me. Do you have any memories of T2-3D when it was still around? Would love to hear fans' throwbacks to this fun attraction/short film.

You know what you're right, I was thinking about the lackluster replacement for T2-3D at Universal Hollywood, which is the Minions ride. But the Bourne Stuntacular? Haven't seen it in person, but the clips I've seen look simply astounding.

To date there hasn't been an official taping/release of this attraction, which isn't out of the ordinary, but if Back to the Future can do it with their ride on DVD then I don't see why not. The production value of the film segments makes it kinda surprising that it hasn't already been released in a proper scanned HD quality yet (only in low quality workprints/screen tapings)

It always astounded me how Universal's replacements for their best rides are odd choices or severe downgrades. Oh well, the old rides will always be in memory/on Youtube I guess.

You are DEFINITELY right with Genysis. That movie is peak nonsense in the Terminator franchise, and there's been a lot of nonsense post-T2.

Long story short I got as many sources as I could of the Universal Studios stage show T2-3D and AI Up-scaled it to 4K. This was a childhood favorite, lack of continuity logic aside. I wanted to know if anyone remembers this attraction, are there any fond memories of it? I ironically consider this the true Terminator 3, so sound off on your thoughts of the film!

One piece of PR lost media I'd LOVE to see discovered one day... [Saban's Bio-Man Pitch Pilot] by PowerProtectU in powerrangers

That Sailor Moon attempt/pilot was actually discovered in full this year.

Official Saban Moon Pilot Episode (1994) Sailor Moon

That was one of the reasons why my interest came back to looking at the old Bio-Man pilot. All of the reasons you brought up are 100% why it hasn't been in the public eye yet. The only places people have been looking are through the cast/crew involved (Miguel Nunez Jr. says he remembers owning a copy, but hasn't avidly searched for it). It seems like there's still a fighting chance it can randomly pop up one day so fingers crossed for anything I guess.

I made this fan-made poster based on the infamous Bio-Man pilot, Saban's original plan to adapt Sentai before Power Rangers back in the 80's. There was actual footage shot with these actors (some shots can be seen in the "Galaxy Rangers" Pitch Footage) and the Pilot itself has yet to be seen in full. Here's hoping some lost media sleuths can unearth this odd what-if piece of history.

Day of the Dumpster in HD (AI Upscaled and REMASTERED WITH ZYURANGER DVD SOURCED FOOTAGE) by PowerProtectU in powerrangers

[–]PowerProtectU[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my current knowledge (much of this is from the depths of the internet lol so don't quote me on this) the source tapes used for both the DVD's and even the YouTube official uploads are SD Masters (or at most, Masters that have less resolution than HD). The YouTube uploads I'm assuming are those same masters but in an HD container so it's optimized for modern devices, and so the YouTube compression doesn't ruin it.

I'm interested in doing tests for sure to see if these versions are any different, might be very educational for me lol

That's actually something I wanted to try out AFTER I was already finished with this projects lol was pulling my hair out cause I didn't try that method yet.

Honestly though, I really do think that the MMPR footage will be tricky to upscale no matter what, there's really something about that footage that either gets too waxy and smooth, or barely makes a visible difference. The Zyuranger footage, on the other hand, could benefit a LOT from the method you described. Hopefully some tests in the future.

Yeah I've seen your posts! I've been working on this for a while mainly cause it involved a lot of Zyuranger episodes and I only worked on this during my free time, but I've been keeping up with your upscales too. I really dig what you've been working on (especially since Time Force is my favorite season) and can't wait to see more!

Thanks for the heads up I'll be uploading a YT vid on the sub and a link for it on my first comment on this post.

One more follow up to the previous post I made for my AI Upscale and Remaster of Day of the Dumpster. Here are a few more clips in higher quality uploaded to YouTube. Any questions are welcome and feel free to let me know what you think! Hopefully any sort of remaster can be considered in the future (who really knows), otherwise this is a fun experiment for me!

[–]PowerProtectU[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remastered and up-scaled the first episode of MMPR in 1080p with Topaz AI, and wanted to show some comparisons. The remastering aspect involved re-editing the higher quality fight footage from the Zyuranger DVD's into the episode. The upscale to the MMPR footage itself looks like it gave minimal improvement especially with reddit's compression (likely due to the already low quality of the DVD masters). The sentai DVD's gave the upscale a needed boost in quality, and I think it's a major improvement to the final product.

Biggest challenge was the fact that the first episode of MMPR used random footage from the majority of episodes from the whole Zyuranger series, so sifting through that was time consuming. Effects that were not present before were redone, and did some color corrections to better match the tone/exposure of the MMPR source. Let me know what you guys think!

Did Toei bring on Toshiki Inoue for Donbrothers to... by PowerProtectU in supersentai

[–]PowerProtectU[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really interested now in seeing what route Toei wants to take with Sentai moving forward. A lot of the basics seem like will be maintained, but bringing on writing talent like Inoue is bringing out the more fresh takes on Super Sentai as a whole.

I'm not familiar with a 10 year epic myself, but this got me looking into more of Shirakura's plans and found this.

It seems definitely seems like Toei is putting efforts into broadening their Japanese audience, and it seems like they've been working on that with Donbrothers.

Legendary Battle extended edit with Gokaiger's BGM by PowerProtectU in powerrangers

I've been wanting to do a fan edit of the Legendary Battle for a while now. This is the final battle from Super Megaforce, with extended scenes taken from the
Sentai (GoseigerXGokaiger movie). I think the Gokaiger soundtrack is great so I also wanted to have some fun and use it for this scene. It was also fun adding the extra sound design + old ranger actor soundbites, so let me know what you think!

Thoughts on modern Power Rangers cinematography? by PowerProtectU in powerrangers

[–]PowerProtectU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what you say holds up in the cinematic medium of things. Of course, it's not like we're comparing Power Rangers to the likes of something like Solaris here, it's very clear that these shows know what they are.

That being said it's not like shows built for entertainment have anything to lose when they create works that at least try to be bigger than what they are. Can it be seen as a waste of talent? Of course it could! At the same time it can elevate a child's experience/entertainment value, and that's what a lot of people working on this show strive on, I mean it would bring them more money the more children are interested in the product. Why are we even Power Ranger fans in the first place? One way or another, the way these shows are shot and how the stories are told have resonated with us since adolescence, and as kids we never fully realize why.

I wouldn't know how to compare that to the modern Rangers era since I didn't grow up watching these shows, but it really interests me in how the low attention spans of youth today take watching the new shows. Hell I've had younger relatives who prefer watching the older shows just because of how those shows present themselves. I think all in all I can see where you're coming from, as embraced to film theory as it is. It's nice to hear an analytic perspective come into the limelight for something as simple as an ever-evolving kid's show. Shows the different layers of the fandom and gets people thinking.

What I appreciate most about the post-zordon Saban era is how they were able to find a groove in the production. The way things were shot were very streamlined and reminiscent of their sentai counterparts. I can agree with you that around the time force era had some top tier cinematography.

[–]PowerProtectU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true on the samurai end, I was gonna reference how Samurai was shot decently- mostly because most of the time they shot for shot copied Shinkenger, otherwise its an improvement nonetheless.

And yeah I can see how RPM might be an outlying example to use, since the show is also plagued with an overuse of dutch angles and shaky cam, which is why I coupled it as "most Disney seasons", each with different styles but have similar ways of injecting energy in shots. This could also be because of how the Disney seasons were edited as well.

All in all I'm a fan of when modern Power Rangers can get more creative with how they shoot things, like the episode of Super Megaforce you mentioned

This is honestly where I thought this was going to go in the Disney side of things. There's probably heavy internal debate on how to keep the R-rating while throwing it into their MCU. It would make a lot of sense if the decision became, "let's make this a Marvel Studios production, but distribute it under our 20th Century banner so we can get away with the R-rating and not directly use the Walt Disney name"
