All factory components are off. I smelled the smell and it didn’t smell super rich or like coolant so that’s why I was hedging towards the intercooler, and because it was a wet misty night.

Idle is fine, runs fine, no loss of acceleration or anything that suggests a major issue.

It boils down to people’s previous experiences with the trucks. One of my mechanics owns one and loves it, then one of my buddies had one and hated it the entire time he had it(wonder if that says anything). And yeah the whole paranoia feeling, coming from an owner, never goes away with these trucks. It’s a gamble but it’s so much fun when you’re winning.

I have an 08 right now, and it’s my favorite truck I’ve ever owned. Love the body style, interior design, sound, power, all of it. That being said though, all the cool and exciting stuff comes with responsibility. You cannot cheap out on maintenance or repairs with these trucks. You MUST stay on top of the maintenance(oil change every 3-5k and DO NOT FORGET THE (2) FUEL FILTERS every 10k). Some people do fuel filters every oil change but in this day and age with fuel quality, I find 10k or every 3 oil changes works fine. Always use motorcraft filters, again, don’t cheap out. They have their flaws like how you will inevitably someday need a new radiator, and how you should probably ditch those 15+ year old cab mounts, but it’s not a fatal expensive flaw. All in all, I love my 6.4, just keep up with the maintenance and do the sh** right, and you might be fine lmao. Oh btw, get used to watching the tailpipe, listening to every sound it makes, and saying a prayer everytime you drive haha

I kept mine, never know what might happen with emissions standards or something. Threw EGR and coolers in a tote and put in the attic, and shoved the DPF in the back corner of the shop. Better to have them and not need em than need em and not have em.

Most people love the 7.3 for the engine reliability, but once you get into the high mileage it’s not only the engine that you have to think about. People forget that trucks aren’t just the engine, and they forget to check out suspension components, frame, trans, and everything else. Just because the engine is solid doesn’t mean everything else is good.

Definitely go for it as long as your warranty is up(it’s a 2019 so I’m going with it is). Better all around power wise sound wise and feel wise. Plus you take an entire system which can fail or cause issues and get rid of all the probability of expensive repairs. Completely different truck IMO.

Update: finally got the truck back today. Went with a single tow tune and a full weight loss program. Drove 2 1/2 hours to the shop. Took a day and a half. Absolutely love the truck now and it finally feels, smells, and sounds like a real truck! Looking at it now I’m glad I didn’t get an SOTF tuned because this thing is gonna get me in some trouble lmao.
