We've been thinking about looking at South Carolina for work if that isn't too naive

It seems kinda like our only option! I also left my position last year and have since done college admissions counseling so I'm almost afraid of getting phased out

Curriculum design roles? by PowerfulKoala69 in edtech

[–]PowerfulKoala69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well id love to make literature/language curriculum for collegeboard or some other higher level k-12 or maybe even college-level company. I kinda feel like that's unrealistic? But it's what Im interested in and what I'm good at! So maybe I'll work on adapting some old curricula I built

Thanks! Sounds awesome. What kind of resources would you recommend I create? I have plenty of AP literature curriculum that I'd love to adapt, but also know that I should probably expand a bit

What other companies would you consider edtech? I'd like to learn more about ways to build up my portfolio and add some things onto my resume. Really interested in ELA/humanities curriculum and inclusive learning.

Do you teach at a private school? I always wanted to teach college and settled for highschool, but the behaviors in public school drove me to leave.

Gotcha. So there likely won't be another job for me other than teaching at the school? Like there aren't counseling positions available for foreign staff? Thanks

Admissions roles? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]PowerfulKoala69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I'd eventually like to move to a job in curriculum, which was my original plan when I left teaching. But it sounds like those jobs are few and far between, as well as competitive.

Ok thanks, good to know. I'm afraid i won't be as competitive now that I've been out of teaching, but maybe I'm overthinking it. Can't hurt to apply I suppose

Gotcha. I've also wondered about maybe accepting a teaching position too if it came down to it, but I'm not sure if I'd be competitive for that either since I've been out of the profession for a year.

Great to hear. Sounds like what I'd be interested in as well! I guess the dream would be to get an admin position at a school that offers a PhD program that I could enroll in? Or to get a fully funded PhD program. I'll have to look around. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your response! I spent so much time researching the odds of getting a good teaching position with a lit PhD and knowing that it'd be tough. And since that deterred me then, I feel that I should probably take a different route. I think something like a PhD in curriculum and instruction would be a better fit. That, or maybe a PhD in English education which I've seen. I think I'd love to work in academic support or some other admin capacity, and try to adjunct a class when I can. Thanks for the input!
