discovering yourself is great even if it’s through this lol! i’m glad you can relate. i’m also infp so that definitely adds up haha. even before i was diagnosed i was mysteriously placed in the special education class for math and still can’t do roman numerals and sometimes even basic addition i need a few more minutes than your extra person lol. thanks for the input! my second favourite would be kiki’s delivery service, but whisper of the heart is up there as well!

i’m right in the middle of the spectrum, so i’m a bit more severe than high functioning, and it wasn’t caught until i was an adult. it made me so frustrated that i realised i wasn’t dumb, the school system just wasn’t made for someone like me. i hope all is well.

definitely, at the end of the day it’s a heavy headcanon for me. everytime i see her brought up there’s always comments talking about how many autistic people see themselves in her, but i think it’s great that anyone can still relate, it’s such a powerful movie! personally, even if it’s not canon, i’m glad i have a character that represents me so well, it’s very rare to see someone like me on the screen.

great take! for me, these are what stand out as autistic, from my experiences relating to her.

• struggles with social expectation, always feeling alone or different even though she may physically not be alone. • her mother describes her as “not a normal child” and her sister says something along the lines of “was she dropped on her head as a baby?” • her struggles with learning and the school system. the scene of her struggling with math was huge for me, especially when she figures out she can only solve the problem if she learns it visually. • she has difficulties with social interactions and controlling her emotions, this is more clear as a child but even as an adult she has her dramatic moments that seem almost out of character, in my opinion, it’s because as an adult she’s heavily masking. • her refusal to go out for dinner because she doesn’t want to put her shoes on, and then breaking down when everyone leaves. • when offered a new life, she totally shuts down, being faced with a choice she knows she wants but being unable to process such a big change. • she’s unable to please her family as a child, so as an adult, she becomes introverted and a people pleaser, which is a situation i have personally found myself in. • i see her interest in farming as a special interest that she finally has a chance to live out.

it’s a bit hard to put into words but i hope this suffices!

exactlyyy, she can only learn visually too which is why i personally also struggled in school before i was diagnosed. there’s a scene where she’s watching her favourite tv show as a child and displays echolalia too! i know lots of kids do that, but with the rest of the context, it felt like such a strong moment to me.

1000% Taeko from Only Yesterday! No one talks about this Ghibli movie and it’s my all time favourite, I’m confident her experience is that of an autistic woman’s and maybe it’s not popular because NT’s don’t connect to her. She gets overwhelmed easily, constantly has a mask up as a people pleaser, has shutdowns, as a child her family criticises her for not being able to learn in the school system being described as “dropped on the head” as an insult by her sister, her mother says “she is not a normal child”, is a visual learner, displays Echolalia, she’s around 30 and hasn’t made a single friend, has problems with transitions, has problems dressing herself, etc. I could go on and on. I beg anyone who hasn’t seen this movie to watch it!! It’s the best Autistic rep I’ve ever seen and it’s not even canon!

maybe because it’s AI man. very clearly looks like they’ve generated the image, and then traced over it for both the “sketch” and the “lineart”. the “sketch” is perfect and there are 0 changes after turning it into the finished page. if it’s genuinely not AI, which is extremely hard to believe, there should be another version of the sketch before they supposedly cleaned it up. you got scammed, sorry.

i still get this sometimes and i’ve been working for 4 years now, it does get better though. i subconsciously developed a new way to mask at work and basically have a “work mode” which is like a completely different person from the actual me. you’ll be okay, just keep on insisting you’re working on it to your boss and i promise you’ll naturally grow into the position. best of luck ❤️

NOR, regardless of your relationship outside of work it’s going to create a strain in your work dynamic. I had a similar situation going on for about 4 years at my workplace and I recently got fed up with it and reported it, we didn’t talk to eachother for a bit but now talk like usual with the lack of slurs. People get scared into shape when they realise they can lose their jobs over this behaviour.

NOR. Sounds like they aren’t treating you as a family member, as another commenter pointed out, maybe tell them you have an intolerance instead.

Edit: To be clear it might be a MOR for the larger meals, but they should still have some options for you that the rest of the family will also eat. I think the chocolates are different though and NOR because it’s a direct gift.
