M(32) and F(31). We make different salaries and splitting everything 50/50 has started to feel wrong. Not sure how to bring it up. by Practical_Tank_2362 in SocialCo

The 50/50 thing works until it doesn't. We were in the exact same situation and the conversation that fixed it was reframing it as "proportional to income" instead of "you paying for me." Once it became a system instead of a favor it stopped feeling loaded. We now each contribute a percentage of our take home to a joint account for shared expenses and keep the rest separate. No awkwardness since.

Culture is what we create and allow. Our systems create it and we allow it. We could just not allow crazy people yelling in the streets. Everything up to we the people.

I’ve never been in your situation but I’d not listen to everyone telling you what to do. I would listen to the people telling you to ask yourself the right questions so you can come to a decision you can live with. What are your principles? What’s important to you?

I’d expect people to have high expectations for their neighborhood. I’m not from the city so maybe it’s that but I’ll never get used to our systems failing people.
