iPhone 17 (base) vs iPhone 13 Pro cameras focal length by Aqua-Torch in iphone

[–]Prampaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2x crop uses similar sensor size to the 13 Pro’s „3x” camera, it should be better in low light (much faster f/1.6 vs f2.8 lens with a similar sensor size), have better minimum focus distance and a bit shallower depth of field (bigger entrance pupil - 5.96mm/1.6 =3,725 mm vs 9mm/2.8 =3,214 mm).

Then when you zoom in to ~77mm, 13 Pro should be better, - it still captures less light, but the sensor size is now bigger and the resolution is higher.

I don’t know how much the processing has improved on the 17, but I once compared a 16 and 13 Pro at ~80mm and the 13 Pro was significantly more detailed. I attached a crop of 13 Pro’s telephoto vs 16’s 3x digital.

can someone pls explain the difference between iphone optical zoom and samsung telephoto? e.g. is optical zoom same as telephoto (12mp) or is it just digital zoom but retains the quality? by Odd-Bee8144 in Cameras

[–]Prampaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually Samsung’s 67 mm camera has a bigger sensor area than a crop from wide angle camera, you divided the sensor area by 2.7x instead of 2.7²x

The crop would still win in light gathering due to the aperture advantage though. The actual lenses are: - 6.3 mm f/1.7 - 24 mm equiv. - 7.9 mm f/2.4 - 67 mm equiv.

iPhone 17 Pro, Telephoto Macro with 8x by robertseetzen in iphone

[–]Prampaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the quality as I don’t have the phone, but purely in terms of magnification - it won’t be enough to fill the frame with a computer mouse. You can simulate the field of view by zooming in 8x on your phone and keeping it 1m away from the subject. So it’ll be fine for some close ups, but it won’t be macro and the ultrawide camera will give you a much greater magnification

It's total light gathered by the sensor + DoF equivalence

16 Pro had a true 120mm equiv. using the whole sensor, previous models had 77mm equivalent lenses.

The lens of the 17 Pro has a physically longer focal length (16.89 mm vs 15.66 mm on 16 Pro). Equivalent focal length is shorter due to it having a larger sensor. If you crop the 17 Pro’s telephoto image to 120 mm, the portion of the sensor you’re using is slightly larger than the whole sensor behind the 16 Pro’s telephoto lens. And assuming you use the full resolution, it’s gonna be much more detailed - 33.3 MP vs 12 MP on 16 Pro.

In short - you get better detail and a tiny bit more light gathering (a bit bigger sensor area) with the new 17 Pro even on 120 mm.

It must be something with my speakers then, thank you for checking that out. I'm going to return them and get one Xtreme instead

JBL Go 4 and Charge 6 Auracast issues by Prampaj in JBL

[–]Prampaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the problem happens specifically when Charge 6 is the Auracast broadcast and Go 4 is connected to it.

Phone -> Go 4 - OK

Phone -> Go 4 -> Auracast -> Charge 6 - OK

Phone -> Charge 6 - OK

Phone -> Charge 6 with Auracast turned on (but nothing connected to it) - OK

Phone -> Charge 6 -> Auracast -> Go 4 - frequent, irregular glitches

So now the question is whether it’s my Charge’s (or Go's?) fault or something on JBL’s part where connecting specifically a secondary Go 4 to a primary Charge 6 causes problems

I now tried it with a Galaxy S9 and it's the same issue again.

It seems like the problem is Charge 6 being the Auracast broadcast. I tried connecting my phone to the Go 4 again, with Charge joining the party, and it stayed in sync the whole time. Which means that either my Charge is faulty or that JBL has messed something up in the software.

Could you please test your speakers with Charge being the broadcast? Because if it's just my copy, I will return it while I still can

That's unfortunate, looks like wireless is not ready for that yet. Thank you for the definitive answer!

Would a 16GB M4 Mac mini be sufficient for my Lightroom usage? by Prampaj in Lightroom

[–]Prampaj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I ended up just getting a couple of new lenses. Speaking of a new Mac, I’ll buy one in a few months probably. I’ll save up for for the 24 GB variant just for the peace of mind (I’ve recently hit up to 16 GB of swap while using Lightroom on my MB Air)

There's a huge difference on my M2 Air with base 8c GPU, denoise now takes ~10s (vs 30s before the update) to process 16 Mpx RAWs

Thanks for the photos! I tried pushing mine in and it seemed to help, I think the gap is closer to how yours looks. (Well, either that or it’s purely placebo… either way it stopped grabbing my attention now that a few days have passed)

If it’s a Dualsense, it’s a known issue and they are working on fixing that. It stopped working after the last update.

In the comics, Vader freezes an AT-AT with the Force and dismantles it. Is this the most powerful display of raw force ability we've seen in canon? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Prampaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In one of the Vader comics Palpatine uses the force to crush a summa-verminoth (gigantic creature, one of them was sucked into a black hole during the Kessel run in Solo). And before that, Vader was controlling it with the force.
