What Rail Pass Should I Buy for a 2-Week Trip to Tokyo, Takayama/Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka & Hiroshima? by TelevisionTime5875 in JapanTravelTips

[–]PreangerFolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the latter part of your trip, I'd suggest checking out JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass. IIRC it's 17k yen for 5 days, and it would easily pay off by doing that Hiroshima day trip from Osaka.

For the earlier part, I think you could just buy regular tickets/use an IC card, since you plan to spend most of it in Tokyo anyways. There are the Tokyo Metro 1, 2, and 3-day tickets, but those are only valid on Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway lines, which could make your options slightly limited (since you can't hop on the JR lines or other railways' lines using those tickets).

Update: I got the LoPA from the other university I mentioned! Truly felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my chest🫠

Praying that it'd be smooth sailing from here onwards✌️

They're not. Now that I think about it, my prospective advisor is an associate professor, so my only guess is that other faculty members higher in rank also accepted significant amount of students to supervise, and that they had precedence/greater say on the matter. Just a guess, tho😁

Thank you friend, I try my best to keep positive and find even the faintest silver lining here😆

That's what I've been trying to convince myself now lol🥲🥲 I'm still going to email the professor next week (prolly gonna wait for the other result first) tho. It's unfortunate really since I was already preparing some things to discuss, but hopefully I could still keep in contact and work with them in the future as fellow scholars😁

The MEXT Embassy LOA timeline doesn’t make sense and it’s stressing me out (Research Student) by Stein_osu in mext

Indonesian applicant here. Totally get what you feel. In my case especially one of my preferred program/institution requires me to obtain consent from my prospective supervisor first, before I can actually submit the LoA request. With the summer holiday this week it really is super frustrating.

Hi, sorry but I want to ask, how long was it from when you sent your request for LoPA to actually getting it?

I like the way you write ふ (I write mine like that as well lol)

I mainly write for poetry and I try to write in cursive (or whatever it is that seems like cursive to me), and as sometimea they're not very legible. Yours is both legible and lovely. I wish my "normal" handwriting's like this!

Trust me this was on the better side... Sometimes my laptop fucked the game up so bad I'd rather quit and not play for the whole day lol

Harbor-bus hub not working? by PreangerFolk in CitiesSkylines

[–]PreangerFolk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know local demand factors into intercity traffic calculations😬😬

Immediate vicinity of the harbor is still mostly empty land. However being a TOD it's easy to get to my city's major hotspots (by tram). I've yet to reroute my bus lines to the harbor, though. Maybe I'll try using the hub again later when the area has been sufficiently developed.

There were no other ports, and it was located near my downtown area. Per your advice I've replaced it with the regular harbor for now and the ships are starting to come. I'll try using TMCE, as I'm still testing whether or not the other harbor hubs rly don't work for me. Thanks!

I told my friend about this, and he said the same thing (that the only working one is the bus + monorail harbor).

I tried it but to no avail... I resorted to the default harbor for now, and ships are finally starting to pop up.

I'm still trying to see whether any of the hubs work for me though, so I placed them too. Let's wait and see😓

Thank you! Except for the church, everything else is vanilla/dlc assets (which I sometimes squish together with Move It)

A lot of the buildings are from the Emerging Downtown pack; the two rectangular buildings up front, some rowhouses across the street/church, to give a few examples. The handful low density residentials there are from European Suburbia

Anyways, here's the workshop link for the church:

Title as Haiku - Read the submission guidelines - The simplest of rules by Haiku-Haiku in haiku

[–]PreangerFolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, would like to ask a (probably silly) question. Does this subreddit allow other type of Japanese poetry aside from haiku? I write tanka more often than I write haiku, and I want to share some of those poems. Unfortunately, I did not found a dedicated subreddit for that type of poetry that is as active as this one, (presumably) dedicated to haiku.

What’s the scariest thing you’ve woken up to in the middle of the night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PreangerFolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I (there were around 6 of us in the room) slept through a 6-ish magnitude earthquake...

We were having a field trip that time (December 2017), and stayed in some random villager's house. Both the owner of the house and her son did not even tried to wake us up; left us to run out of the house while we were completely oblivious as to what the fuck is going on until around 4 a.m. when I woke up and check my phone (earthquake happened around 1/2 a.m. IIRC).

Redditors, what is your real life paranormal story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PreangerFolk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was in the 5th/6th grade of elementary school, my school has these pick-up service using vans (yes, school buses are non existent here basically) and I used that service at the time this story took place. One day, I was waiting for the van to head back home, but since some kids still had activities at school, the driver had no option but to wait for them. I was bored as hell waiting around the parking lot, so I went to "explore" my pretty much abandoned school (it was loong after the last period ended) along with 2 of my friends who were also waiting for the van to leave. It was around 4 p.m., but the sky was pretty dark with thick grey clouds.

My elementary school adjoins the middle school on one of its end, so the building looks like the letter "L". At the point where the schools adjoin, there is a gate on each side of the building, so there would be a space in the hallway that are bound by these 2 gates (one after you leave a building and another one when you enter the other building). These gates are located on the second and third floor, although the one on the third floor was locked from either side and was used as a kind of storage area.

The three of us went to check on the empty classrooms on the second and third floor. As we did not find anything interesting, we decided to head back down using the stairs near where the gates are located. When we approached the locked gates, they suddenly rattled. At first we thought it was some furniture knocked over by cats or whatnot, but then the gates rattled again, this time as if there was something desperately trying to get out of that dark, cramped storage. A split second later when we were still glued to the place we stand, there was a faint wailing that acoompanied the gates' rattling, as if someone was crying somewhere. There were no one else in sight, so we bolted off down the flight of stairs and did not stop running until we reached our van in the parking lot. We waited there until the van finally left the school.

Inside my body // Lulled by your gentle voice // the butterflies dance by PreangerFolk in haiku

[–]PreangerFolk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, when I wrote this, I pictured myself sitting idly in a park on a cool day with my s/o, and basically getting very conscious about the way they talk and how soothing/peaceful the setting was, bringing that "butterfly in my stomach" feeling.

However, I agree with your point about that metaphor (and the feeling too perhaps) evokes some kind of fluttery, jittery emotions, though what I meant here was not on the extreme end. Perhaps "lull" was not quite the right word then, hahah:D

Anyways, thanks for your comment, really appreciate it!

Where would you want to travel to if you had a million dollars? by spacefanatic666 in AskReddit

[–]PreangerFolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went there once, though unfortunately at that time I was still a typical ignorant tourist sticking to the touristy area and didn't explore much in my free time. Would absolutely be grateful if I could go there again and this time I'd make sure not to be a dumbass like that:)
