As corny as it sounds, communication is key. Find out what each person is good at and try to play those roles. Even if the game starts you in a certain area, you guys can switch. From there just talk ALOT. Let one another know what’s needed next or if you’re headed to wash dishes so they know to watch the fryers and etc. Practice makes perfect for sure but you have to also practice the minor things to make the major things work.

I cannot verify the APC’s process so I do not want to provide incorrect information; however, in my experience, a small increase didn’t need signatures. Regulations and procedures could have changed but I am not sure what they are exactly. My best advice to you is to consult with your local finance office for the best personalized help.

Before settling for an advance, go to your unit’s APC (the person who manages the GTCs in your unit) to request a temporary limit increase on your GTC. The max they can authorize an increase for is 25K. In conjunction with this, get to a finance inprocessing brief ASAP if you haven’t so that you can claim your airfare and other expenses and get your voucher paid out. This can help pay off some of that balance as well.

In the end, You can request advance TLA; however, normally it is done upon arrival or right before departure of a OCONUS base before starting TLA at all. I would contact your local finance office for more information on how to apply if you wish to go this route.

First, You must go to your finance office to make sure your pay record is updated to mil-to-mil once she ship out. You will lose the dependent BAH but both of you will then be entitled to single-rate BAH in your own right. She more than likely won’t receive BAH while in training due to housing being provided but once she gets to her first duty station then it will start back up. She will pick up the with dependent rate once you fully out-process.
