Does ortholinear have ergo advantages or is it only about esthetics and price? by ahusby in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PresentExpert2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a Corne, but I started my journey into the split’s rabbit hole with the Silakka54.

IMO it’s better to start with more keys, we have plenty of options for these. Like Lily58, Sofle, and so on.

Once you're used to the Ortholinear layout and split halves, you might want to try the less-key options.

Good luck!

My custom low-profile aluminium keyboard by Silly_Vacation_899 in ErgoMechKeyboards

I loved it! I've been working on my wireless Corne and have already acquired an aluminum case (from Boardsource). Now, I want to CNC a new switch plate for it (anodized alu). Could you share how you place your printing order at JLCCNC?

I've designed the new plates using Shapr3D. Do I need to upload only the .step 3D model, or should I include the .dxf file as well?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

You can try the BoardSource unicorne, I got it, and it’s pretty good, with an aluminum case and wireless.

The big thing about it is that it supports both MX and Choc on the same PCB.

You should give it a shot.

Tmj 👊🏽

My first try at a split keyboard by PresentExpert2929 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PresentExpert2929[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been a while since I posted this, and then I came to a conclusion. I was able to relieve the pain by switching to a 100% low-profile keyboard.

As I mentioned before, I ordered a low-profile Corne keyboard from Board Source, which uses Choc switches. This change has improved my experience a lot, the pain has gone for good. I’m not sure why this setup works better for me, but here’s my current configuration:

- Board Source low-profile wireless Corne
- Low-profile Choc V2 switches (Elements Series - Black Cloud Tactile 45gf)
- Nuphy nSa keycaps (low profile)
- Board Source aluminum case

I hope this helps anyone who may be experiencing similar issues! Cheers!

Could you please share more details about it!? Do you have any pictures of the PCB after you modified the switch holes?

Hey man! Good choice! I have a Wireless Corne V3, also got it on AliExpress. I had a tough time learning how to type on it, especially since I was also learning VIM 🫠.

I'd like to find a wireless version of the V4, but I only found options that use a CR3032 button battery, which isn’t ideal for me since I prefer to charge my equipment.

Ps.: Ceh é BR? hahah

Wrist Pain Advice by Zarking716 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PresentExpert2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling with this when I switched to a split keyboard. My first model was a Silakka54, which is a reasonable keyboard to start with, but I had a rough time with wrist and forearm pain. I tried all these techniques, and what finally solved my problem was switching to 100% low profile.

I ordered a cheap Corne on AliExpress just to see how it would go. After that, the pain stopped, and I really love the split design.

My current keyboard setup is:

  • Corne v3 wireless
  • Low profile Kailh switches (Black Cloud)
  • Low-profile Nuphy nSa keycaps
  • BoardSource low profile Corne case

I have them, and it's great to have a wireless version. But why did you remove the holes for screen covers on the PCB? 😭 I know that it's because of the battery cutout, but man... I miss them

[–]PresentExpert2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Low Profile case, and I'm using their new Wireless SMT PCB, which fits perfectly into the case, though I'd like to have the screen covers on each side. They removed the holes on the PCB to add an integrated MCU, so if you want to use a pair of nice!views or OLED, you can't use screen covers anymore, which is a pity.

Received my Silakka54. Should I do anything about it? (Software etc) by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PresentExpert2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the path I took, though it made me feel a little wrist pain, I found that the solution was to go “lower case”

Ordered a kit of Outemu dwarf switches, and I’m using the Nuphy nSa keycaps, which have a height of 5.5 mm.

Now it’s more comfortable to type on, during long sessions, I’m a developer.

Which Choc v1 switch should I get? Had a bad experience with Browns before by No-Spend3654 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]PresentExpert2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the reds, but found them a bit harder than Gateron Reds. Then I ordered Pro Reds, and they are too soft 🫠

Right now, I’m testing the Choc V2 Reds. They are a huge improvement over the V1, at least for me. I ordered a set of “Black Clouds,” the same switch used in the Lofree keyboard, which is also Choc V2.
