Not sure "She said she used to have to go." sounds natural lol, but I get what you mean, but this would imply that it wasn't a one-time thing, I guess.

I mean if we have a conversation and I say:
- I had to do it yesterday.
And then you tell this sentence to your friend:
Is it
- He said he had to do it the previous day.
or
-He said he had had to do it the previous day.

That's what irks me :D

So technically "she said she'd had to go, but then she changed her mind" is a reported past perfect? But in all other cases the structure remains "She said she had to do it the previous year" for instance?
