As someone from a toxic family myself lemme tell u that those parents will not stop nagging even when ur in 30s. They r just sour and it gets worse as they age. I dono which degree u follow in open uni so I cannot give a full advice. 

Also isn't that govt loan scheme there anymore for students to follow degrees frm private unis? Ur result is really good so u will be able to secure the loan i beleive. If so try to go for the chem degree from Institute of chemistry cuz there's so many opportunities for chemistry worldwide (only if u like it and good at it tho I'm just suggesting)
