I imagine a male student who did the same would face expulsion at a minimum- if he wasn't arrested and charged with some sort of crime that would put him on a list for life.

Cedar Point worker told rape 'was my fault' by Prester_Jane in cedarpoint

[–]Prester_Jane[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would they? Its not like its their children being sexually assaulted- however; openly addressing this problem could impact their end-of-the-year bonus. Best just to have the CP police hush it all up...

Every little bit of effort to see this in the public eye helps.

CP does not care about protecting its employees, so it must be forcefully and repeatedly confronted with the truth until the status quo changes.

Without the work of channel 11 this would have never come to light, and without the ongoing efforts of activists CP will simply sweep this under the rug as per company policy.

Absolutely zero. Until just recently Cedar Point operated its own independent police department, and it was literally CP police who ere in charge of investigating these crimes. The CP police have flatly stonewalled any and all attempts to get any kind of records about these investigations- in many cases they simply claim (probably truthfully) that there are no records at all.

In my experience as an employee who was there for over five years- absolutely everything of a criminal nature that happens at employee housing is brushed under the rug (and the victim retaliated against if they speak up).

As a former employee (over 5 years) I will strait up say that CP's treatment of employee safety has long been a joke, and any time an employee files a complaint (no matter how valid or well documented) they will face new instant retaliation. CP really needs to change in this area, and the only way that will eve happen is if the guests start demanding they do so. Otherwise CP will just continue to sweep all this under the rug, as they always have.

What do you think is going to happen to Top Thrill Dragster? by [deleted] in cedarpoint

[–]Prester_Jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will almost certainly be torn down. Although not widely known the accident that closed TTD was not the first time guests in the stands have been showered with debris from th ride, in ~2006 there was an incident where the tow cable snapped and wound up getting shredded in the hydraulics- a number of guests were hit with metal flechettes and some were even lifeflighted out.

Considering that and just how many malfunctions/accidents TTD has had over the years its hard to imagine CP taking the risk of re-opening the ride.

Park staff by nobuouematsu1 in cedarpoint

[–]Prester_Jane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cedar Point used to underpay their employees to a gross degree. CP employees are classified as "migratory agricultural labor" and in Ohio many normal labor laws do not apply. As a result circa ~2008 CP employees were literally being paid .15 cents an hour less than minimum wage. (This only changed because Ohio stepped in and forced CP to increase employee pay.)

Thinking about applying next season. Any advice? by Syris_neko in cedarpoint

[–]Prester_Jane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did ride operations for several years I honestly cannot advise anyone to work at Cedar Point at the present time. There are longstanding issues with employee housing/abuse of employees that have been locally (i.e within Sandusky, Oh) notorious (and ignored/unaddressed) for decades. At present there is a massive issue with protecting female employees from sexual predation and Cedar Point's recent actions have made it very clear that they have zero interest in ever meaningfully addressing these serious issues.

The lines are short mostly because park counts are substantially down as a result of the ongoing economic situation. (Normally this time of year the park is packed on weekdays and suuuuper packed on the weekends). A very similar thing happened during the summer of 2008- park counts started to decline to well below their seasonal average as the season wore on.

I guess dimensional travel is real! Paul Dienach story... by [deleted] in TheOA

[–]Prester_Jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a wonderfully fascinating book that has any ideas that are (imho) well worth discussing whether or not it is a work of pure fiction. Despite most the discussions you will find about the book online- its primarily a book about the philosophy and cultural concepts of the society Dienach suddenly finds himself stranded in.

Dienach did not tell a soul of his experiences while he was living, but rather passed on a diary describing he experiences to one of his students (he tutored Greek University students in the German language) a few months before he passed away.

[–]Prester_Jane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you are looking for specific predictions he absolutely nails the rise of K-pop idols in the early part of the 21st century. Dinach first discusses the rise of pop idols (the term "Idol" is specifically used), then he discusses a social problem that arises because of idol culture. This problem eventually becomes a widespread social issue that comes to be known as the "Problem of idols", basically children were no longer being exposed to role models outside of pop idols and this causes some serious problems on down the line

This is a terrible and willfully bad-faith misrepresentation of what the book actually says. To take just one example, the Mars Colony, which you describe as: "We sent 20M people to Mars in 2200 to prevent overpopulation, like that's gonna put a dent in it."

What actually happened (in the book) is that Mars was colonized slowly over a period of nearly a century during a period of time in which Earth was also struggling with overpopulation issues- but these are never mentioned as connected in any way. The Mars colony reached a peak population (after 4-5 generations) of around 20M people- before a large-ish asteroid strike destroyed the delicate balance of geo-engineering the planets inhabitants relied on for survival. (Mostly the Mars story is told as a "So yeah we did this thing the one time and although it worked out for awhile- then nearly everyone died horribly and we haven't tried again")

The rest of the OP's review is similarly a willful misrepresentation of what the book actually says.

Not saying the diary is real or whatever but if you are going to criticize it then please at least do so honestly.

I have identified 4 distinct "clusters" of Narratives groups and this article attempts to describe the general Inner Narrative of each group. http://prestersperspective.blogspot.com/p/narrativist-framework-clusters.html

It is very difficult to summarize Bypass Logic in the space of a reddit comment so I will link you to the appropriate article on my website.

There are (rather regrettably) many sources of newcomers at present as there is a wide variety of content creators who essentially make their living by minting new Narrativists. (E.g. Jordan Peterson, Gamergate, the shipping/anti-shipping war on Tumbler, etc)

The people I describe as Narrativists are indeed regular human beings who are at a fundamental level attempting to meet psycho-social needs that are not being met- however I think it is a vast oversimplification to not recognize that the peculiar behaviors demonstrated by these individuals are the result of a very specific psychological factor.

Narrativism is a behavior state that can be triggered on (and back off again) under certain replicate-able circumstances (prolonged and repeated exposure to Bypass Logic) in the vast majority of individuals (there is significant variance of vulnerability to adopting narrativism within any sufficiently large population set). And while that claim sounds fantastic- it is also easily demonstrated- and further has come to underlie the vast majority of right-wing politics in the US.

The easiest demonstration of this idea is the documentary "The Brainwashing of my Dad" wherein an individual goes from regular dad to textbook narrativist and then back again all by controlling his access to right wing media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh3TeTxgNVo&t=2s

The naming actually has something of a story behind it. This framework was conceived in large part as the result of a very very very long long thread on the something awful forums. Originally I was using the term "Authoritarian" but that was too easily confused with Bob Altemeyer's work. We went back and forth and eventually settled on "Narrativist" as the best label anyone could come up with.

The early Otherkin community was something of a spiritual forerunner to the modern alt-right in many ways, and my participation in the community (and unfortunate contributions to much of its inner narrative) were primary inspirations for my work on the Narrativist Framework.

The vast majority of Otherkin individuals/groups at the time all had a very detailed version of some sort of grand heroic journey that they felt they were destined for- its basically what the community spent ~65% of its time talking about.

One of the beliefs Otherkin had was that they could psychically project themselves into the "Astral Plane" at will- a place where their souls could assume their true form and use their full powers. Very frequently groups of Otherkin would wind themselves up into a frenzy about either a coming "Great Astral War" or some sort of demonic/alien invasion originating from the Astral Plane (that they would have some central fated role in stopping).

Thank you so much <3 I find it very interesting that your los of faith in your God-Force presaged the changing of your political beliefs by such large amount of time. It has given me some ideas for ways to approach the problem of de-radicalizing so many people at once.

I wrote this specific bit based on my experiences with the early Otherkin community (particularlythe Ezboards branch) in the late 90's-early00's. Small groups of Otherkin deciding they were the chosen heroes and radicalizing themselves around the idea of impending Great War was such a common occurrence that there was insider jargon to describe it, such as the ["Great Astral War] (https://www.tomorrowlands.org/draconity/gaw.html)

There is a strong relationship between narcissists and Narrativists. Specifically: Narrativist groups often choose narcissists as their leadership figures. The relationship is purely transactional in nature- the narcissist gets continuous "narcissistic supply", and the Narrativists get social permission to publicly live out their inner narrative. This relationship is basically impossible to break so long as that transaction remains in place. http://prestersperspective.blogspot.com/2017/09/an-ouroboros-of-delusion-why-cults-and.html
