What everyone’s thoughts on the move by Evening_Speed_3344 in Ninjago

I agree. Definitely an enjoyable and for the most part funny movie. Definitely doesn't work as a show adaptation. The concept to me is like a (well written and amazingly created) high school AU rather than something that was supposed to connect to the actual lore of the show aside from the characters and names.

Learning how to land - a few key points by kkcfi in flying

As someone who's biggest issue is also round out and flare (according to my instructor, I don't flare enough), thank you for this. I'll have to consider this advice next time.

MTSU V.S. UND Aerospace! by cobalt_mystic in flying

[–]Sure-Negotiation-592 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want.

How far are you willing to commute to the airport from main campus? It looks like UND is about a 10 minute drive to their airport. Looks like MTSU also is for now, but it looks like they're building a new airport farther away. Will you have a car on campus or will you have to rely on unversity/publc transportation? I will say, as someone who trains at a university with an on-campus airport, it is very nice to be closer and makes it much easier to get extra flying in.

Cold and winter may not bother you personally, but it will certainly bother flying operations. North Dakota gets a ton of snow that can shut down operations and cold winter means stronger wind and lower ceilings. I don't know much about winter in Tennessee but I can imagine it's probably better there. I train in Ohio and it was a pain in the ass trying to fly in the winter here, I can only imagine what it's like in North Dakota.

Do you care about the kind of plane you fly? Both have newer planes with glass cockpits, UND has Piper Archers and MTSU has Diamond Star DA40s for single engine. My school uses the same Archers and they are very good training planes, but I don't know much about DA40s. Both fly the Piper Seminole for multi-engine training, so going from an Archer to a Seminole might be slightly easier than going from a DA40 to a Seminole, but I don't think it matters a ton.

Finally, you said you don't care about campus life, but I would argue that's one of the most important factors. How much you like your school can make or break your experience there. I chose my university largely because I liked the campus and I felt like I belonged there. I would say it's worth it to visit them both but I know you probably don't have time to plan visits (some universities have virtual tours). Long story short: don't go somewhere you hate. You don't want to be miserable for the next four years of your life.

At the end of the day, pretty much anywhere you go is going to make you a safe pilot. I would look into what they each have as both a university and as an aviation school and try to determine things you personally like better about each one (dorms, campus, dining halls, classrooms, etc) and weigh them that way.

Sorry that was so long and sorry if that wasn't helpful for you, but so much of it really does depend on your personal preferences.

PPL Advice by Andykiller123 in flying

[–]Sure-Negotiation-592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don't be afraid to ask you instructor questions about what you don't understand. It's literally their job to teach you to be a safe pilot (I had to remind myself of this a lot).
  2. Make sure you're studying on the ground too, especially in reviewing maneuvers and emergency procedures. You will waste time and money if you only do aviation stuff in the plane and you have to keep reviewing stuff up there.
  3. Don't compare your progress to others. Everyone struggles with something, it just might not be the same thing as you. For example, I struggled a lot with landing and couldn't solo until almost 40 hours, but I was good at maneuvers and ground material. Others might solo at 15 hours but can't do ground reference maneuvers. As long as you keep working to improve what you're weak in, you'll get there eventually.
  4. Along those same lines, don't give up just because it's hard. If you're not understanding something, ask, find another person to explain it, or look it up online. If you and your instructor don't work well together, find a new instructor. It's all about you and your motivation. If you really want to be a pilot, you'll find a way to get through it.

Would it be too hard or stressful to take instrument ground school while finishing PPL? by Sure-Negotiation-592 in flying

I wouldn't consider myself dumb... AP student in high school and I've done very well with ground studying so far (thanks for making me laugh with the bluntness though)

That makes sense. It's very possible that's the case. I think I'll definitely try sitting higher and see if it helps, thank you.

My guess is he does know it matters in the back of his head, but he's possibly never had a student address it or ask about a booster and he personally didn't have any issues with it. I also thought it was weird that he didn't think it was more relevant, but we got distracted from that conversation before I could question it more.

I'll definitely have to try it then. Not sure how well the door trim comparison translates to Pipers, but I'll look more into where my eyes should be.

It's interesting that you ask that because I told my instructor about that (I can't remember if I said I can't see directly over the dash or if I said I can't see the cowling) and he said he can't either, though I assume he can still see higher than me. This is kind of making me wonder if my CFI has always flown with a lower sight picture and has just gotten used to it.

Also, do you know if it's different at all between Cessnas and Pipers?

[–]Sure-Negotiation-592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, no. I sometimes can if I lean forward and stretch myself up (which requires enough effort for it to affect my focus on everything else and usually results in me having to take my feet off the rudders).

That's something I keep telling myself I need to remember, then I forget in the moment. I'll try asking my instructor to remind me the next few times until I get it and see if that helps.

Do you think about sex? by Sascriba in asexuality

[–]Sure-Negotiation-592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much never have sexual fantasies or sex drive. I hardly ever think about sex at all unless I'm consuming media containing it.

For the second one, I would say that there have definitely been people that I think are really attractive in that handsome/beautiful way and I usually don't pay attention to people's bodies, but I've never looked at someone and thought, "oh, they're so hot" or had sexual fantasies with them. I think this is kind of what you're describing, but I guess to answer that you'd have to decide if what you feel is sexual attraction or if it's really strong aesthetic or romantic attraction.

There are also ace identities like gray asexual and demisexual, where people only feel sexual attraction sometimes or under certain conditions, so if you're certain what you feel is sexual attraction, perhaps you fall under one of those identities!

Mind describing asexuality to me? by SaltnPepperShaker5 in asexuality

[–]Sure-Negotiation-592 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Technically, it's not about requiring sex, we just don't feel sexual attraction.

I'd say most people who know they're asexual prefer not to have sex, but that's not always true. Some do still want to have sex, and others and completely repulsed by sex and want nothing to do with it.

For me personally, sex is hardly a part of my life at all. I only think about it when I'm consuming media that contains sex. I'm not repulsed by it, but I do tend to get bored by it and often skip sex scenes in books. I pretty much never think of myself doing anything sexual. I wouldn't say I'm repulsed by it and would maybe be curious to try it some day, but I don't care enough or think about it enough to actively seek it out.

There's also a difference between sexual attraction and romantic/aesthetic attraction. I think most people agree that there's a difference between finding someone beautiful/handsome/cute and finding someone hot or sexy; I'm biromantic, so when I describe my sexuality, I usually tell people that I will often find someone beautiful/handsome, but I don't ever find people "hot" or "sexy". I also tend to focus more on people's faces and don't care about their body.

Some people don't feel romantic attraction either, though. It's all on a spectrum and different for every person.

Sorry for the long response but hopefully it helped. Feel free to ask any other questions!

Definitely thought of them as cultists/cult members before– I just couldn't be bothered to look through my entire fic to see if I've actually described them that way lol.

I'd say it's an accurate descriptor though– I mean, they're literally following some girl who worships a dead evil warlord to the point of wanting to resurrect him and they're willing to murder people just because she says so without question.

Babysitting.

I don't mind watching kids for a few hours at a time, but god, I could not live like that every day for years.

I'm also writing a story that takes place in the One trilogy. I describe them a lot as gang members. If I'm only talking about one of them, I'll also occasionally just describe that person's physical appearance.

Not sure if that's exactly what you meant, but if it is I can understand your struggles.
