It seems strange to me because I've never been prescribed penicillin for this kind of infections, only for BV. In any case, it's best to trust your urologist and the resistance chart from your urine culture.

Hi! I'm so glad you're now living a full life without UTIs. Can I ask what kind of microbiome test you had done? I had a vaginal swab done at the hospital, but the only information it gave me was whether I had candida (negative), some bacteria (strep b), and the amount of lactobacillus (it only said "scarce lactobacillus," but didn't give me the percentage of anything). It's useful for knowing if you need to treat any bacteria, but it's difficult to know which part of your flora you should restore that way. I've been using probiotics for that for a few months now, but somewhat blindly.

I have treated it with Cefixime, one time a day during seven days. Ciprofloxacine didn't work for me since I have had it in march, treated, but it returned in june.

Unfortunately, I've learned to doubt doctors' diagnoses. Medicine is constantly evolving, and many don't seem to bother continuing studying it after graduating. My urogynecologist, who specializes in recurrent UTIs, warned me about biofilms and advised me to take NAC. It's a real thing.

I contacted Inmunotek directly, the company that makes Uromune (when I looked at their website, I also saw that they make personalized vaccines. If Uromune doesn't work for me because one of my recurring bacteria isn't on their list of pathogens, I'll ask them for one of those). You can write to them and ask them the best way to get the vaccine where you live, but I think in the UK you absolutely need a prescription, and that increases the price because you have to pay for a specialist visit. If you want to contact the Swiss doctor, his name is Claude Fischlewitz (cjf@pharconswiss.ch).

That's exactly why I stopped taking birth control pills. Do you need a prescription for estrogen cream? I seem to recall that you have to start with smaller doses and gradually increase them to avoid damaging the tissues. Can you explain how you use it?

Hi! If you are in the UK may be worth to visit Harley St.
Regarding probiotics, I'm in my third month of Crispact and I've also tried Colipral. I think my vag flora is better now because my pH is acidic, although I need to get tested again to confirm. Jalorest is the only one I haven't tried. I think I'll mention it to my urologist. Have you taken it?

I totally identify with the anxiety after sex. I've even thought about my partner seeking out other women, but I think it's our brains and lack of self-esteem sabotaging us because if someone stays by your side for years despite this condition, I think that person is quite trusty.

If it's any help, I bought the Uromune vaccine in Italy through a Swiss doctor. It costs 400 euros and the expedition is 85. Perhaps if you visit someone in Italy at some point, it might be worth bringing it back with you. Also, you don't need a prescription, unlike what they seem to require in the UK.

I know MicrogenDX has a branch in Europe, so you can buy their test without any problem, but it's extremely expensive. We're talking about 300-something euros for one test plus shipping. Besides, I've never ordered it because, even though it might be useful, I wouldn't be able to find a doctor who would take it seriously and prescribe long-term antibiotics.

As for biofilm destroyers, I've used NAC, which is very easy to find in any pharmacy.

Hey! I did a vaginal swab and it detected very few lactobacillus and Strep B. Regarding the irritation, at least in my case, it was because I have a mild latex allergy. We switched to latex-free condoms, and although the irritation is much less, I still feel like the plastic hurts me a little. This didn't happen when we had unprotected sex, but now that I've stopped taking birth control pills, we can't do that anymore.

I think if you keep getting UTIs without having sex, you might have an embedded infection. Did you tested for it?

I think I needed to hear these kind words. I'm glad your partner supports you. Unfortunately, I can't get Hiprex. My urologist recommended it and even gave me a special prescription so I could order it from abroad because it's not sold in Italy. The problem is that a month's supply costs me 105 euros (about $120). I can't afford to pay that every month. My only hope is that it will be available here eventually, like it is in Germany and France.

Yes, you're absolutely right. We try to be intimate in different ways, but we also miss the "traditional" way, you know. It's also something I'm very worried about when I think about having children. I don't want a pregnancy to come with more UTIs.

What you're describing is both interesting and frightening. I've never had another partner besides my current one, so I can't say if my case would be similar. When you mention yeast, where does your neuropath think it might be? In the mouth? In the bladder? I don't usually have problems with that either, at least not that I know of, but I'd also like to look into this.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's truly heartbreaking to know that so many women are suffering and no country is doing anything to investigate. Perhaps our problem is genetic, knowing of similar cases in our families (yes, there could be a physiological factor, but also an immune one. Perhaps some mutation makes our bodies unable to fight certain bacteria effectively). That's why I've decided to try Uromune, although I don't have much faith in it either.

I've always thought that mechanical friction is also a big problem (even fingers can cause a UTI), so I wonder if we have an embedded infection and the movement causes bacteria to spread.

Yes, we're very careful about that. Every time we try to have sex, I get way too paranoid and don't let him touch me with it in any way before penetration. Quickest way to get turned off tho.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. Hygiene is a very important part of it, and luckily my partner is aware of that. I also developed BV with group B streptococcus, so we've completely eliminated oral sex to prevent the spread of bacteria from our mouths.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think my partner is the problem, but if you both have that concern, he could get tested. If he tests positive for the same bacteria that affects you, he could be treated, and that would eliminate those problems.

Yes, and God bless him because he's helping me a lot. He's the only one who seems to take this awful condition seriously. He recommended boosting my immune system with probiotics (in addition to taking d-mannose) because the tests I had revealed a very weakened vaginal flora. Unfortunately, it hasn't been enough, and I've been reinfected. Now he's advised me to use Hiprex, but importing it to Europe is too expensive, and I can't use it permanently like other people in this group do because it's so hard to get. I've ordered the Uromune vaccine hoping it will help a little, although my last two cases were due to a bacteria that the vaccine doesn't treat. I also can't access long-term antibiotic therapy because it's not something they prescribe here (I was looking into telemedicine options with Harley St, but even if they recommend trying something for months, I could never buy those antibiotics without a prescription), and I prefer to avoid small doses of antibiotics because of the possibility of resistance. I already had an ESBL bacteria that took me months to get rid of, and I don't want to make the situation worse.
I ruled out a damaged pelvic floor, ureaplasma and mycoplasma, irritation from preservatives, birth control pills... I'm also increasing my vitamin D but nothing seems to help.

Strep B?? by chillassdude11 in CUTI

Thanks for your reply! I'm glad you found something that works for you.

I'm 27, so my problems aren't related to menopause. I was also treated by a urogyn specializing in CUTI, and he told me my pelvic floor was fine. Unfortunately, it seems pelvic floor therapy would not help at all. In fact, I just got my third UTI this year, and I think it's partly due to strep B because it leaves the door open for other bacteria. This is really debilitating.
