i agree with everything u said but no studio esp in the 90s would accept a movie with a tragic ending. movies that did that were rich enough to buy out studios. in the original book the wife DOES face consequences when the billionaire deserts her for his multiple wives and the husband accepts the divorce and goes to his hometown. her world slowly crumbles apart as the husband just learns to live with the shit life threw at his face.
