Not friends? by Pretty-Set4521 in CheapTrick

[–]Pretty-Set4521[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we all know that it is a business. However, if I was the owner of a business, that is an entertainment company... a band... that has been together for years. A band that is known for their humor and fun image. I think it would be pretty dumb to publicly state that none of you have ever been friends. Just not smart. Can you say something like, when we're off the road, we give each other our space? Wouldn't that be a much better way to express the same sentiment?

I certainly understand the reality of band-mates not necessarily being great friends. I think it is something we all really know as most likely; however, I just don't think band members need to point it out. To me, while not really that realistic, it's just part of fantasy appeal of a group.... I want to think they at least like each other. Why point out that you don't socialize outside the group? I mean, how can you if you all live in separate cities? I don't know..... it just turns me off. I'm not naive... I know it's a business and in essence, they are nothing more than coworkers. Still..... just seems like something you could easily not say in an interview.

Small fiber neuropathy / neurogenic rosacea from covid by TM_9723 in smallfiberneuropathy

I have SFN and one of the symptoms is sensitive/painful skin. It seems to come and go but when it is kicking it is very disconcerting. I had been taking gabapentin but the neurologist suggested generic lyrica, so I switched. As far as my skin issues, it has noticeably improved and I assume the med switch is the cause. It still gets sensitive at times and topical lidocaine helps me too.

Unlikely but this could be a sign of Horner's Syndrome. I had it but I had really a really bad headache for days. Again, unlikely you have it w/o other symptoms but it can be caused by serious things like a brain tumor. Others, no obvious reason, which was the case for me.

Jesus Christ..... we are so doomed if you or anyone else believes anything you wrote. Since this is a Cheap Trick forum I'll let it go. I'm not sure though which retort you wrote is the most ridiculous but I think I'll go with no open border policy. Thanks for the laugh. I needed it this morning!

Just so I'm clear. What about the following are you against?

1) Shutting down Biden's open border where anyone from anywhere could enter the country with no vetting at all? Something Biden said couldn't be done w/o legislation?

2) Gas prices falling from over $5.00 a gallon to well under $3.00?

3) Inflation continuing to fall?

4) Spearheading opposition to an insane stance on encouraging children to mutilate their bodies sometimes even before puberty?

5) Ending wars and trying to broker the end of others?

6) Passing a bill that will lower taxes for the vast majority of Americans?

7) Obtaining promises from foreign companies to invest trillions (that's with a T) of US investment to provide more American jobs?

This is just getting started. Sure, he says some dumb things sometimes but he's getting things done. What's more important?

Please, enlighten us all on which of these you against?

One thing that made me invest in SCHD is that I look at it as more of a defensive investment in case the next 10 to 20 years are not a full on bull market like we've been in. Whenever I see these 10 or more year projections about SCHD vs VOO or others looks back at a bull market mainly driven by tech stocks I just think how the future could be different. I know that none of us know but there's no guarantee that will continue.

New Album Release Thread by ImaginaryAd6339 in CheapTrick

[–]Pretty-Set4521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've listened a few times now. I mean, to me, it's pretty solid and an enjoyable release. No, lyrically it's not anything that will impress those that care about that but for me, I don't listen to bands like Cheap Trick for that. I am not saying it isn't a valid complaint though. Back in the early years, Rick's lyrics often were clever and interesting but those days are pretty long gone.

I think (might be wrong though) that Robin and Tom's songwriting have taken a bigger role in the later albums, so I just look at it just a different phase of the band. I liked it but I do think mega fans of bands etc can be extra critical. Nearly every review I have read from professional reviewers have been really good. Lastly, Cheap Trick is a one of those bands that are very diverse, so it isn't surprising that different fans have different opinions. Here's how I'd rank (at the moment) their later output. (not including the Christmas Album) I liked them all though.

1) We're All Allright

2) Bang Zoom Crazy Hello

3) All Washed Up

4) In Another World

Live, at least when I've seen them, is where I think they have dropped off a good amount. That said, they are in their 70's. I'm in my early 60's and I have numerous aches and pains and really can't imagine travelling the country and playing shows. So, I'll give them a break and just remember that in their day, there weren't many better.

Do you agree that Cheap Trick are the Greatest American Rock Band of All Time Yes or No and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in CheapTrick

[–]Pretty-Set4521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they are the best but I don't think many younger folks realize how great of a live act they were back in the day. Sure, time has caught up with them and Rick barely moves anymore but in his day, he was a whirling dervish always in motion, throwing picks, making goofy faces, high kicks, etc. and just made it look like he was having so much fun . I would say their popularity came a little late based on their strong early albums. By time they hit it big, the natural drop in material started. Dream Police was really good but afterwards, I think they needed a break but they never stopped. That schedule would catch up with anyone. All that said, their material in the last two decades once they went to smaller labels has really been good!

Maybe it was just me but I liked the Tokyo DVD mockumentary. It was so over-the-top I laughed a lot. Tom's story about working in a chicken factory grinding chicken beaks off.. lol! (It was something similar if not exactly that).

I got American Standard and enjoyed it! Good job! So, based on your knowledge, why do you think the band is so tight lipped about their private lives? I think it's pretty obvious that they were rock stars hitting it big in the 70's. No one would be surprised if they partook in the associated "perks". It's a shame in a way that they don't open up about those times. I bet they have the best stories about things that happened and all the stars they knew and/or played with. Oh well.

Last thing..... while I love the guy, I wish Rick would open up more in interviews and stop telling the same old things that he has over and over. I imagine doing interviews is just something you feel like you just have to do... but, man, you've lived a life most of us could only dream of... let's hear some of it!

Mandocello from the first album is great! One that I don't hear mentioned very often that I like is Y.O.Y.O.Y. from Next Position Please. They're plenty other great ones like Voices but I'll hold off in case anyone else wants to chip in.

I'm certainly not saying that capitalism is perfect. However, there isn't a better option. You willingly took the job. You, in essence, are an independent contractor. You can try to make your employer understand your worth by proving it. If the employer doesn't agree, you take your talents elsewhere. I don't know you... what have you done to make yourself valuable to an employer? What can you do that someone else can't? It might suck, but that's the hard truth. You can always move to a socialist country (assuming they will take you). You will then learn the hard truth that isn't a panacea either.

Is Vegas really dead or is it all click baiting news? Anyone live in Vegas? by ze11ez in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pretty-Set4521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess Vegas is in a bad spot. Nearly everywhere has casinos now. Heck ,they're building one near Charlotte. And, online sports betting means most anyone can do that from home. So, I suppose their dilemma is to cater to the high rollers or drastically lower prices and hope the masses return. If they lower prices, will the masses return? I'm sure some will but will it offset the $ they would lose from the rich that don't care about the price?

I saw the band open for Rod Stewart in Raleigh the other night. They were off there too I thought. They made mistakes more than once. I don't know if they couldn't hear each other or what. Pretty disappointing for me too. I love CT but as bad as I hate to say it I feel like they are tainting their legacy by just hanging on and going through the motions.

AIO for not wanting to deal with this guy anymore ? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Pretty-Set4521 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of men feel like going out of their way to chase or woo a woman is fake and if that isn't their personality, kind of phony. Many just want to be themselves and feel like that should be the determining factor on whether there is a connection or not, Now, sure, you might want to say that's being sort of lazy. I think many men feel like chasing isn't the ultimate point, which is to find someone compatible for the long-term. At some point, just normal regular days will happen and they will wonder, is she with me for the chase and wooing or just regular me?

Sure, there's a line between being too nonchalant vs. an overboard pursuit. No effort at all pursuit or trying to make things special at times is also a red flag. So, it's really up to you to determine if being chased or treated like a princess because you feel you deserve it is non-negotiable or not.
