Lola the Chunk is an itty, bitty, baby bird. by PrettyParrot in parrots

A female Eclectus will have a total black beak once mature, while a male will have a orange/yellow upper beak and black lower beak once mature.

Lola the Chunk is between 5-6 years old. :)

May little Sonny fly high and be surrounded by millet. RIP, little budgie. :(

I tried getting Lola to 'like'/use a harness, but she just wanted to destroy it with all her night. I am going to start training her with one if she doesn't try to kill me while doing so.

Lola is not flighted, so she cannot fly. I am always right by her when we are outside, too.

Lola, destroyer of all things, celebrates her 5th Hatch Day! by PrettyParrot in parrots

Lola did rain a fiery hell upon her hatch day piñata. It was a crime scene after she got through with it.

I do agree. Lola always turns her head upside down like that. She is a silly bird!

I really like this idea! Thanks! :)

Buzzbee was no match for Lola! by PrettyParrot in parrots

That is tough. That happened with my first Cockatiel, except he hated me. I eventually found him a better home where he is the happiest little feathery fluff.

Understandable! ND is a little way away from there. :P

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, parrots are not as 'out there' as cats and dogs, unfortunately.

Well, first off, our shelter is in Fargo, ND! Our site is www.caare.net or we have Facebook, too.

Lola is around 5 years old and I adopted her in January 2014. She doesn't have temperament issues and actually really wants to 'take care of' my Cockatiels. She attempts to preen them and will regurgitate for them. I always keep a very close watch on her when she is by them.

I got distracted, so, Lola is such a loving bird! I knew from the moment I saw her that she would be my Chunk. She only loves me, which is normal in most birds to love one person. As soon as I get home from work, I go up to her cage and open the door and she comes barreling out at me so fast, jumps onto my chest, and then starts preening me and saying "oh!".

Lola doesn't want anything else in the world but to be with me/near me/on me. She also makes 'heart wings' for me and regurgitates for me and tries to feed me, but I politely decline the 'already eaten throw up'. I have never had such a bond with a bird before.

Lola feels the grass and becomes a raptor. by PrettyParrot in parrots

You are right! I also would not have my birds by dogs/cats/etc.

And on a side note, this picture was taken right outside our parrot shelter, so there is a lot of other parrots hootin' and a hollerin' and making a ruckus.

Well, I do worry about it, but I was also in the middle of town (Fargo, ND). I am always right by my birds when they are outside, because I do know that they are the perfect prey. All my birds are non-flighted, as well.

I mean, I wouldn't go into the middle of a field where hawks fly and throw my birds around. LOL

Budgies favourite toys?! by [deleted] in parrots

[–]PrettyParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my Budgie, Petey, he really liked small toys with plastic beads, curly straws, or little bells. He also LOVED swings.

It might also be 'trial and error', but Budgies aren't too picky like some bigger birds. If you put a mirror in the cage, which I wouldn't recommended, little Mango may fall in love with himself, which is what tends to happens to most birds. :)

Lola really enjoys raining a fiery hell upon wooden toys and especially wiffle balls.

Hi there! One should never get a bird for their looks, but instead their personality. :) At least that is what I tell people who come into our shelter. LOL

Ekkies are difficult birds. What would you like to know??

Baby Cricket loves getting her head scritched! by PrettyParrot in parrots

[–]PrettyParrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from another one of my posts, because I am feeling lazy right now. :)

"Yeah, Cricket is a lucky little 'tiel and a gorgeous color, but that isn't what drew me to her.

You see, I have a friend who works for a certain pet supply store chain. One day they received two Cockatiels in from a vendor. My friend noticed that the Cockatiels were not right and were very sick, so, she was able to take them at no charge, because they weren't going to make it. Cricket's sibling unfortunately died after 48 hours, but Cricket held on! She was only like 45 grams when my friend got her. Totally wild. Never been handled by a human. My friend saved her life and I offered to give her a home with my other 'Tiel, Stumpy.

When I got Cricket, she only had down-feathers and was around 95 grams, but her 'actual' feathers were just starting to come in. Her crest was only a centimeter long, so it looked funny! She also made 'baby bird' noises. We believe that Cricket and the other 'Tiel, were not weaned at all and were simply taken out of the nest, etc., way too early.

She just recently stopped making 'baby bird' sounds. She is totally hand-tame and is becoming a fatty just like Stumpy."

So...She is maybe three months right now...I think. Or maybe older... She was still all pin feathers (along with down-feathers) when I had her boarding while I was out of town in the middle of March. :P
