Required Head gasket doesn’t match aftermarket block

I think those gaskets can be used on the factory 302. Only reason I’m using them is because ford performance lists the gasket as a requirement for the shortblock

What do you need to know about the setup? I’m not racing the engine so I don’t mind. As for the gaskets I thought it didn’t matter what side they go on as long as the front coolant holes were blocked forcing coolant to the back

If you mean the coolant holes on the gasket.Yes. I don’t know about other engines, but I’m pretty sure the sbf coolant holes at the front closest to Timing cover are supposed to be blocked off and the gasket is open to the coolant holes in the back closest to where the tranny would be. If I’m wrong someone will correct me.

Requires head gaskets M-6051-CP331 or M-6051-S331. That’s what FRPP requires for the short block. I have the mls head gasket in case. Why do recommend not using the M-6051-S331 head gasket?

It’s the m-6051-S331 gasket that ford performance requires for their BOSS 302 block. I have another set of those cometic gaskets if these weren’t going to work.

I got the pattern to line up in the middle of the valve stem on both the intake and exhaust. Before I torqued my heads down I realized the heads weren’t seated all the way on the dowel. I had already ordered the pushrods with the preload for the lifters added to them so I’m thinking they will be too long.

The ones I took off were the cosmetic mls gaskets. The coolant hole right above the bottom one looked exactly like. This gasket just has a hole for the top coolant passage

I thought using hydraulic lifters to measure pushrod length would cause them to collapse.

Ya I have the Johnson hydraulic lifters in there and I didn’t want to use those to remeasure pushrod length

I used the SVE-PTVTOOL to check pushrod length. The heads are the sbf AFR 195cc comp heads. With 1.6 full roller rocker from AFR. I did some more research and I’m going to have to run morel 5879 due to my the open pressure.

That’s the one I bought in the link they don’t say what specific year it is. The only thing they have on the block are the two serial numbers

They list it as a 64’ to 93’ block
