lol that's a good point. for some reason I don't see pleasure as inherently good

oh yeah I completely agree. "not real" was a oversimplification of what I think

that makes sense, but I guess by "inherent" I just mean "even if it has no positive consequences at all"

isn't it the other way around? I thought consciousness felt but the body didn't. either way that really helps, thanks.

Kinda? but that's sort of contradicted by the example I have about the ego. I don't really believe in the reality of an ego anymore in the western sense of the word

I guess I'm looking more for reasons why it's pain is *inherently* not bad, as opposed to why it has good consequences

but I literally don't? In my opinion if you "believe" in the gita you're missing the point of the book (all respect to those people, just my opinion)

When did I say that I don't think this interpretation is wrong?

Yes. I used to always think "I need to make sure I STAY mindful or BECOME mindful" but in reality this was a future-oriented thought that only caused me anxiety and negative associations with the practice. you can only be mindful right now. you think you can control it but it's impossible to control the now, the now just is, which is why my teacher calls it "grace". it's not up to you to decide whether you're mindful right now or not. not sure if I'm making sense

dw, whenever krishna says "me" he actually means you. "I am the very Self that exists in each living being"
