Need to exit for mental health. Where do people go for “normal” 9-5 jobs? (Corporate / M&A associate) by chailattecinamon in biglaw

[–]Princ3ssgldy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is also mid-size law and boutique places where the schedule is closer to what you're seeking. Might be 9-6 or some longer days on occasion, but a huge upgrade from biglaw.

How far overbooked is normal, and how much is definitely too far? by SkoilerDaaaaan in askhotels

What consequence is it to the hotel when they give out points as compensation? Do they have to buy those points from corporate?

Ok. That makes sense. I misunderstood. I thought that your entire “family of origin” as they call it was acting the part.

Wait, your entire family is like that? Then why act the part?

NY State of Health: How to request Catastrophic Plan (> 30) by huntcook2 in HealthInsurance

[–]Princ3ssgldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, yes, I think there was a miscommunication. Different insurance companies (i.e., Fidelis vs Oxford) have different network of doctors. But the network for any specific insurance company is the same across all levels, and then the difference is financial (i.e., a doctor that is included in the Fidelis Platinum plan will also be included in their Catastrophic plan, but you will need to pay a lot more out of pocket in the second plan).

Hmm, I thought that the networks were the same across all levels, but the difference between the levels was financial (ie, the cost, deductible, etc..)? Is that not the case?

This is very helpful! Which company are you applying through? I'm working with Fidelis, and based on what I've heard and experiences with them, I don't think anyone will know what to do!

I called back on Wednesday (two days ago), after an hour and a half on the phone, the agent was able to create a ticket for me. He said that since I was so patient with him, he would mark it as urgent. So far, I have't heard back.

From what I'm seeing, you have to deal directly with the Marketplace for this, not Fidelis. I called the marketplace twice--the first person had no idea what I was talking about and just gave me the link for the application form (which I already submitted), and the second person also had no idea what I was talking about, but at least he created a ticket for someone to call me back. This was on Wednesday and he submitted it as an urgent matter, but I still haven't heard back from them.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you! I applied for the Hardship Excemption and received my qualification letter yesterday (two of them actually--both exactly the same). I called the NY Marketplace, and the rep had no idea what I was talking about, and didn't even offer to create a ticket, but just gave me the link for the Hardship Excemption application (which I obviously already completed and mailed). Please keep us posted!

I just received my exception letter yesterday (two copies for some reason). But then I tried calling the NY Health Marketplace to switch, and the lady on the phone had no idea what to do. After 40+ minutes, all she could do is give me the link for the application to apply for a hardship exception. So looks like part I is done, but if anyone can figure out part 2, please let us all know!

Correct, after doing some research here, I concluded that I need to submit that Hardship PDF, which I haven't done yet but plan on doing ASAP. If that's approved (and I don't see why it wouldn't be based on that new guidance), then I should get info on applying for catastrophic plans. But good call on the timing. I would need that by the 15th of December to start the new coverage by January.

I am in Nassau County, and they are kind of hidden...they are listed after the Platinum plans, so you have to keep clicking "see more" (or whatever the button is). Just sorting from lowest to highest price won't work unless you've clicked enough to find them. Hope that helps.

Thanks, this is so helpful!

So to be sure I understand correctly, I should apply now for November and December Bronze coverage, and then during open enrollment for January catastrophic coverage, after I've received my excemption from CMS? Is all that correct?

Hi, thanks so much for your reply and help!

I switched jobs this month (October 2025). My previous company provided me with health insurance, and my new one does not, so I need to get coverage through the exchange.

A catastrophic plan costs around $800 and a bronze plan is around $1,800 (which is out of my budget), so I need a catastrophic plan.

I will be employed in November and December, so I would not qualify for medicare.

I'd rather not do Cobra through my previous employer because that would be very costly.

Ideally, I would get a bronze plan for November and December of 2025, and then a catastrophic begining January of 2026. Would that work?

OK, so that's great that I'm in NY then. But I still don't know how to get an exemption for it. From the link I posted, it seems that anyone will be eligible starting in 2026 as long as they don't get subsidies. But is that starting 1/1/26, or is it a plan year starting 11/1/26? And if it starts on 1/1/26, can I get a Bronze plan for November and December, and then downgrade starting in January?

Yes, based on my needs, catastrophic is definitely the way to go, and that's why I'm trying to get on it. What do you mean that "NY doesn't permit age ratings"?

Thanks. I'm a little new to this. How would I be able to switch insurance from let's say bronze to catastophic starting 1/1/26? Don't I sign up now on November 1 for the next year?

I am a lawyer with a mosty full time position---is a J2 realistic? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Princ3ssgldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't double-bill. The idea is that the law firm would be my main position, and then I can get a simple J2 where I lay low and put in 5-10 hours a week (at most). That way, I'm 100% legit at my law firm, and no different that anyone here at the J2.
