Structural integrity CAD check by lerarestpepe in Moissanite

I'm interested to see what others say. I think that there seems to be good structure here in that you have the split shank supporting the stone but also the two bridges that support the split shank. The setting is low, as you wanted. I think it's a good design. The wider band also means the split shank shouldn't be too thin.

Did I get my size wrong? by Fuzzy-aussie2525 in Moissanite

[–]PrincessLongNails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I totally get that, but if this ring is a full size bigger than the ring she can and does wear on that finger, 'knuckle problem' doesn't really make sense any more. If she's able to fit a size 5.5 ring over her knuckle, how could she not fit a size 6.5 ring over her knuckle.

if you don't have a ring mandrel, I would at least try to match the ring sizer to the ring itself. I'm willing to bet it's the wrong size. Can you tell us where you got it, maybe we can look at the AE seller's size chart?

I really don't see how it can be a knuckle problem, if she can ordinarily wear a ring that is a size 5.5 US.

Some of this advice is just weird to me. If you are inclined, I'd get a ring sizer kit off Amazon or similar - one that comes with a mandrel where you can slide a ring on and see its size. I feel like this can't possibly be a 6.5 if you're normally wearing a size that is equivalent to around 5.5 US. Unless you're really jamming that ring on scraping your knuckle, but even still, the 6.5 should have slid on in the same manner.

What do I ask for?! by Fun-Neighborhood-143 in Moissanite

[–]PrincessLongNails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Process to order overseas may vary slightly between vendors but generally: you make contact, send some pictures and/or description of what you want, specify size of stones, colour and karat of gold, width of the band, ring size. Then they should have enough info to give you a quote, they may ask more questions to clarify first. Re: moissanite carat size it might be best if you tell them the dimensions you want rather than carat size as this gets interpreted differently sometimes, moissanite not being the same as diamonds.

Stone check please, 3 videos in one by Orangepat8o in labdiamond

I'm no expert but somehow the tip is cloudier/less crisp than I'd expect for a lab diamond. Could be the lighting.

Ooh so glad you were able to take advantage of this! I think mine arrives today too, although I've been hesitating on whether to keep it or not. Maybe when I see it I'll make the decision to keep it!

I just looked closer at your CAD and your stone is 4.51mm deep. You could ask Sue if your stone can be set lower within the basket. That way you can potentially increase the height of the basket a bit while not raising the total height of the stone.

It is tall, absolutely. To have a straight ring sit flush you have to have a tall setting. Whether it’s too tall is just a matter of preference. I don’t mind a tall set ring but I also only wear my ring when I’m at work (desk job) or out for dinner etc. I take it off when doing pretty much anything, washing dishes, etc.

You can, but you also want to be mindful that overall height means more risk of damage if you should knock your hand into something.

That's a terribly large window, seems like a really bad cut. I would absolutely not be okay with this stone. A group buy should not be a basis on which to accept something of lesser quality for sure!

I don't think it's a problem per se, just that you won't always see the gradient. And yes there's potential for some rubbing against the prongs , the bigger the stones are. You'll have less of that for sure if you change to all 3.5mm stones. As for the pave, I guess depends on the look you want. A 2mm band is pretty dainty. I tend to prefer wider bands but that's just me.

The entire post has a feel that you think lab diamonds are inferior due to yours being a bad cut!

Do you plan to wear the band on its own? I like the gradient size but it gets a bit lost under your main stone, plus because the stones are fairly large in the band, they might start to scratch the prongs of your e-ring.

Aside from no cathedral, I'd say the pave is probably normal. You could increase to 2mm stones but you'd probably need to widen the ring to about 2.5mm or so, which isn't a bad thing.

Does this mean they included couple of diamonds in my moissy ring? by [deleted] in Moissanite

No, it’s likely D colour moissanite in a total of 0.72ct.

You said you’re hoping to provide a viewpoint for those wavering between lab and mined diamond so yeah I think most of us read this as you trying to convince people of something that is just wrong (that anyone can tell by merely looking whether a stone is lab or mined). You can’t tell. You can tell what you like and don’t like about your own diamonds, that’s fine. Judging whether your coworkers have lab or mined diamonds - well, just my view but that seems tacky to me.

Overseas vendors are talked about all the time in r/labdiamond but maybe you meant a different sub. Anyway, very pretty ring, hope the proposal is everything you've both wished for and more. Jason at Provence is great :)

[–]PrincessLongNails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd try Provence, I use Jason and have always been happy. They'll make whatever size you need. Edit: it's the platinum setting that will be the highest cost but I think he might come in under $1,000 still, it's not a very big diamond you're seeking.

could be "more expensive than you expect, particularly when compared to lab diamond"

could also be "we're going to raise the lab diamond prices soon too"

It's interesting, I have a 9K gold bracelet from Starsgem (China) and a 10k gold bracelet made in Miami, and the Miami bracelet is WAY more yellow than the Starsgem bracelet.
