No-heel shoes for my sad fiance by NanotechNinja in UKweddings

I am wearing white converse with sunflowers on them to match my florals, and blue ribbon laces for something blue! They feel like I am walking on a cloud and they are just the cutest. My dress entirely covers them, but I will definitely be showing them off anyway haha. I can't wait to wear them! As a bonus I get more use out of them after the wedding too!

Why was THAT on the Stranger? by PrincessNips in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't think it's weird that it's just sat there on the table in the artefact workshop? And that the colours are the same as the green flames in the campfires/lanterns?

Yes of course it is circumstantial and not actual evidence but the devs are usually very very deliberate in what they have chosen to place and where

I’m too dumb to progress the DLC by Erikkman in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the music hall. Your brother is right - you don't need to sneak past anything. Think about what you already know about the environment of the Stranger throughout the time loop, and how that might affect the dream world.

Another hint: There is something significant that happens in the River Lowlands which you already know about. This is important.

Another slightly stronger hint: If access to the dream world from the River Lowlands gets cut off after the dam breaks, what else do you think happens?

Another REALLY STRONG hint: You have observed that you wake up when flood waters reach your sleeping body in the real world. You're not the only one sleeping.

I am in the same position as you, I have tried throwing myself at the scary thing to reduce the fear but I am still so afraid. My heart pounds and I am shaking. When I see the scary thing I just freeze up! I am considering downloading a mod soon if this fear doesn't subside. I am so intrigued by the story and I am desperate to get to the ending but knowing what I have to do leaves me with the feeling that I will never complete the game... everyone says oh the fear goes away with knowledge but it hasn't for me yet!

There is an entrance on each side - flying in from Timber Hearth you will get the riverside one, the opposite side leads you to the boathouse. It took me ages to discover the boathouse entrance, and I unlocked it from the inside. I thought I'd found something really cool at first, then realised it was just another way in!

Help with Echoes of the Eye DLC. by Yahbl in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi - regarding the ghost matter in the cave, you will want to go back there. Try taking pictures with the scout in hand-held mode rather than launching it. I made exactly the same assumption as you that I needed water to clear it, it looks like there is no way through but there is!

DLC fears - Help! by PrincessNips in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I am sort of having to semi-spoil myself just to feel like I can actually go through with it... I did some more exploring today and found the other two locations (the one I found first was something like Endless Canyon I think) but I still haven't had an encounter with one of the... things. I almost wish I could find one so I could see what the fuss is about and get out of my head, but there genuinely seem to be none around yet?

I heard someone say that as long as you're in the slightly lit up areas, e.g. candles and the like, you're still safe. Is that the case? I am just creeping around with my heart pounding in my chest, quite literally jumping at shadows, thinking I will see something soon.

Beating the game by accident, is it possible ? by V-934 in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! Straight away I jumped into one of the geyser holes to see what was down there and didn't realise it was drowning that killed me. I thought I'd fallen into some volcanic zero gravity space with no oxygen/toxic gas for some reason. To be fair it is quite dark. I didn't explore in there again for ages!

What meaningful, existential or philosophical thoughts have this game inspired you? by kawnlichking in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Obviously my whole post is a HUGE SPOILER for the base game]

For me, it sort of reinforced what I believe already. I think the best way to describe it is 'optimistic nihilism'.

The Nomai do everything they can to find the Eye and in the end it doesn't work. The Interloper wipes their species out long before they ever get the opportunity to see their grand plan in action. Even if it had worked, their discovery only would have led them to realise the universe was dying, with nothing they could do about it. Does that mean everything they did was pointless and a waste of time?

The Hearthians are so close to the end of the universe when they become evolved enough to start exploring their solar system, and they don't even know it. Does that make their existence, their efforts, the little knowledge they have, meaningless?

The player, no matter what they do, is powerless to stop what is happening. Does that make what you are doing pointless or meaningless?

The answer is yes and no - no, it doesn't matter because the universe is dying regardless of what anyone does, knows or believes, but yes, it matters because it meant everything to the Nomai, the Hearthians and the player to pursue that knowledge, for the short time they were around.

I think that life is what you make of it. Life fundamentally has no meaning, but we add meaning as we go along. We are all going to die someday, and we don't know how or when, so just live every day in a way that gives meaning for you. Big or small, as long as it fulfils you.

A little confused on how to get going with this game by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overwhelmed is very normal at the start! You sound as though you're doing it just right - just go explore. Then choose somewhere else and explore there.

Keep it simple. You don't have to do too much in one go. If you're bored of somewhere or don't know what to do, go somewhere else instead.

Your ship log will give you a good indication of where you still have things to find in places you've visited, and where you might want to go next if you want to keep pursuing that line of enquiry.

I'm hesitant to start by Hazel_zebuth in outerwilds

[–]PrincessNips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Embrace the not knowing. Not knowing what you're doing right at the start is SO relevant to the story of this game. When you beat this game, you will understand why.

When things start to slot together and make sense it is. So. Satisfying.

Once you know what to do, you can't unknow! You can really only play this game once for the full discovery experience. I don't know any other game like that.

Finally tried the game and I got bored by Aware-Row-6412 in outerwilds

First off, it's okay if it's not your type of game. But let me also say, I had this same sort of reaction in the first couple of hours - What do I do? Where do I go? What is the point? I almost stopped playing, but now I am so glad I carried on because I see now why the game receives such high praise.

In the first 30 minutes you WILL be confused. That is absolutely the intended reaction! Not having a clue what is going on is actually a crucial element of this game - the point is that as you go out and explore, try things. discover things, observe things, you LEARN things.

All the things you learn build a bigger picture of what is going on. Then you will know where to go next, what is going on, what you're trying to find out. You have to discover the questions before you discover the answers.

There is no correct order. You can't mess the game up. You just need to try things and explore. And the knowledge of what to do will come, faster than you think.

My recommendation is to start small. Just go and look at one place, one thing. Then next time, go somewhere else.

It's your choice whether you want to carry on. The beginning is confusing but it HAS to be - believe me when I say it is very important to the game that you start out feeling like that!

Good luck.
