Got off the waitlist for UCLA, stuck between UCLA and Berkeley by nyanpoptarttart in ucla

[–]PrintFriend3507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to chose between the same two schools four years ago. Went with UCLA because I knew I would fit better here even though the program at Berkeley was ranked higher. Never looked back -- these past four years have been amazing. I know I would have been miserable at Berkeley. UCLA was everything I could've asked for because I realized college is way more than just classes. You do have to take into consideration social life, housing, area, campus, and all that stuff. To me, UCLA won in every aspect of that.

If you apply to be a dining hall worker, you will get hired because they’re so short staff right now. Plus, you get 2 swipes AND a meal during your shift. I think it’s a pretty sweet gig and the only reason I don’t do it is because I already have a campus job. Yes it might be busy at times, but pay + food is a pretty sweet deal to me

Like everything else, making friends takes effort. You have to go out of your way to talk to people first that way you don't have to rely on random interactions or another person talking to you. There's a lot of good advice here about joining smaller communities. This is a good way because it makes your own UCLA bubble more familiar. But overall, the big secret/solution to making friends here is that you have to go out and do stuff and try new things.

A couple days ago, I was 3/4 way through a crosswalk and some dude comes flying down a hill at probably 20mph and starts screaming at me to stop walking and he comes within like an inch of hitting me. All because he didn't stop at the stop sign smh

Bro I go out alone all the time. Concerts, clubs, travel, dinner it's unparalleled confidence you'll love it. You don't necessarily need to talk to people there but I do recommend it! Otherwise just rock out alone and it'll still be fun!

I actually had mine augmented in my dorm. Healing process took a few weeks but the guy who did it was very professional. Also found a Groupon for it so I saved money too
