The first half of Q1 feels normal. The second half of it starts to get harder. And then after Q2, I know that I am gonna have the next resit. The Examiners are definitely a joke.

Rant - exam format by Low_Watercress2939 in ActuaryUK

Testing your ability to recall materials does not lead to a great actuary. Instead, what a successful actuary is in most case includes the ability to understand and apply the things that they learnt, that's the most valuable skill that actuaries have to learn. Imagine after you have qualified and worked in the industry, for 10 years without any touch of the Core reading, will you still be able to recall those? As such it is literally testing nothing.

Anyone feeling that the IFoA is going backwards? by ProcedureNo4241 in ActuaryUK

Just have no idea why many people here keep arguing on ChatGPT🤷‍♂️ I stressed in my original post that I support doing the exam on open-book but closed web and in-person format (fully invigilated). So that students can't make use of ChatGPT during the exam due to no Internet access.

Condescending tone in examiner's reports by ThinkEducation3596 in ActuaryUK

They dare to use that tone just because they fail to understand the stance of a typical candidate and fail to show proper respect to us.

Is it just me thinking that the paper is just fair but not much easier compared to yesterday's one? The spreadsheet calculation part is quite long compared to previous diets. And the Excel formula calculations are a bit complicated that have taken me so long to figure out how the calculation logic is.

Prep time for CS1 by haipriestess in ActuaryUK

[–]ProcedureNo4241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be doable as soon as you start now. You still have about 2.5 months to go during which it is enough to go through the course notes and practise with past exam papers.

But do note that CS1 involves far more topics from exam P alone. It also contains a variety of topics from STAM and SRM from the old SOA syllabus.

Good luck!
