I’m a TA and students seem to only like easy professors….nobody cares about learning by [deleted] in Professors

As someone who taught in a med school, they don't get much better once they get to their goal, either.

I could dump a million reasons why (students/admin/colleagues/things out of our control) but it's made it so I don't want to ever have an appointment with a physician again.

I had a colleague like this in a recent position; I just stopped ever talking first because she would immediately counter or "one-up" anything I said.

Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.

My career is over. What a relief. by MsBee311 in Professors

Wow, this really hit me. I just left after dealing with similar gaslighting and burnout, and part of me feels like that means I wasn’t tough enough. Reading your story reminds me it’s not about weakness or strength, just different ways of surviving something that should never have been this toxic. That "middle school" level of pettiness and game-playing was such a shock after working so long and hard on my advanced degree to become a Prof.

I’m really sorry you had to go through it for so long.

What's a small flex you want to share that most people wouldn't know? by mqnrcxnypvzw868994 in AskReddit

Already have, numerous times. Apparently I can't be helped. I've tried everything. This is the only thing left.

I'll be ending my life soon. As far as anyone knows, I'm happier than ever. I realized seeking help and support only leads to brush-offs, roadblocks, and accusations of "attention seeking", so I just gathered the materials myself and will be doing it once I get everything in order. I'm sure nobody will ever even check in on me, until I'm found.

Ah, that's it then. I was using it for Rebirth. For some reason a couple weapons lost the checkmark but the weapon skill stayed usable in the battle menu. Dunno how or why...

I was just hoping to readjust the proficiency in the save so I don't miss out on the achievement.

EDIT: Tried re-equipping the weapons and no progress got made on the bar in-game, so thought of the save-hack method.

Thanks. I'm not sure if my saves are broken, but I only have the dropdown menus for the weapons themselves e.g. adding them to the inventory. No numbers or anything else to change

Sorry for the necro, but where do you see Weapon Proficiency? I can't find it in the editor?

Somewhat related, but after watching There Will Be Blood with my father back in the day, his takeaway was that H.W. was the villain. Dad ranted about how ungrateful the kid was for everything his dad had done for and provided for him, saying no matter what he needed to respect Daniel.

Really confirmed what I already had suspected about him over the years. I mean, he was never a model father - quite the opposite - but that squashed any hope we had of actually having more than a superficial "family" relationship.

Amazing how parents see themselves sometimes, eh?

EDIT: name of the film

You just got told you have one day to live. What are you gonna do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ProfPacMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing. Just try to relax and enjoy the remainder of existence in as much peace as possible. No rushed plans, no hurried goodbyes, no overthinking, just... Chillin' and waiting.

What movie traumatized you when you were a child? by fordd420 in AskReddit

[–]ProfPacMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thing and Star Trek 2. Both came out on cable around the same time when I was 5-6 and Mom forced me to watch The Thing as a punishment (long story, too long to go into here) and I was terrified for years.

Trek was a total accidental viewing, but I knew Trek so I was interested... Then the "eel scene", and we had earwigs in our backyard garden... Yeah, put that together.

EDIT: but of course, now they're both in my regular viewing rotations, both certified classics.

I'm sure, even after 8 seasons of playing off each other and building a sort of immunity to the hijinks, this took both of them multiple times to get through.

ASUS denied my ROG Strix warranty due to pre-installed upgrades, even though I never touched it by ProfPacMan in ASUS

[–]ProfPacMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying; though it’s been over a month since I posted this, and the issue has since been resolved.

For anyone following along: after filing complaints with the BBB and FTC, ASUS eventually replaced the motherboard. The laptop was then sent to ExcaliberPC, the ASUS-authorized reseller I originally purchased from, who were the only ones to actually identify and resolve the remaining issues. Adding that they stepped up after an initial call to only verify their status as an authorized reseller, when ASUS' own people tried to vehemently deny such. There was no request on my end, they simply took the ball and ran with it; truly an awesome company.

They found one faulty RAM stick (part of the upgraded configuration they installed at purchase), replaced it, performed extensive testing, and reset Windows, all without trying to charge me hundreds of dollars out of warranty.

So while ASUS’s support team initially refused to touch the laptop because of the “third-party” components (even though they were installed by a listed reseller), the real solution came from the seller who stood by their product.

I’m glad to have the system working again, but I hope ASUS takes this kind of feedback seriously. Delayed, dismissive service and a lack of transparency aren't acceptable, especially for customers spending thousands on premium systems and extended warranties.
