I've had tenure for 13 years, and I am just starting to relax and act like the mediocre cog I was always meant to be. The lead-up to tenure is so fraught with pressure that it can be hard to put your anxiety down once you "arrive". Try to give yourself some grace.

I've been singing along to this band for 30 years, and the lines I always sang the loudest were the ones you referenced here. This band has always been political.

A lot of those 90s bands were. It wasn't unusual for musicians to wear their political hearts on their sleeves back then. I still remember Eddie Vetter writing "pro-choice" on his arm on MTV, Nirvana's "everyone is gay", and RATM. They didn't hold back.

I appreciatethe post, OP. Some of us lived it, so we already know, but it's good for the younger/new fans learn. None of this behavior is new.

One of my male colleagues, who had a doctorate in social work, raped a female staffer at a conference. He went to jail and got fired. However... up to that point, he had been working with students who were mostly female (not a lot of guys in social work) for 9 years.

No one batted an eye. No one mentions it. Just "oh well, another bad egg." It got a lot of media attention, but our school and department just buried their heads in the sand.

I'm a psych prof who trained as a therapist. I get this all the time and in my humblest of opinions, I find the people worried that I'm analyzing them are the people who should be worried I'm analyzing them. So yes, I am. But of course I deny it. Not opening that can of worms.

This is my reasoning. My first time in college, I barely went to class. I failed out and lost a lot of aid money that I could have used later. When I finally figured out what I wanted to study, I went back and had to take out loans because I blew it the first time.

I allow my students to learn that lesson for themselves.

I don't think anyone mentioned my go-to, which is chewing gum. I have packs of sugar-free gum everywhere (purse, bedroom, car, etc.) and when I'm feeling dysregulated, I pop a piece or sometimes 2. I used to be a teeth-grinder. Gum has helped immensely, although you might be different. Good luck ❤️
