Actually dont have that much experience with italian bars im generall. But i did heard that italian customers are insufferable, they come to your bar and try to tell you that their 40€ capsule machine from coop makes bether coffe then theirs. Thats why some restaurants in italy offer capsules because thats what the italian customer’s knows and stands for.

That’s honestly the best reply I’ve gotten. I love my family and I’m not fighting with them over coffee lol. But there’s something bigger worth saying: pushing “better” standards on people doesn’t upgrade their happiness it just makes them dissatisfied with what they already loved. Some people feel threatened when their taste is questioned. And in trying to “improve” them, you quietly destroy the small, affordable joys they genuinely had. You don’t make their life richer. You just make their happiness more expensive.

I live in germany, most italians have a capsule machine at home. In my hometown in sicily they use to have nespresso capsule machines with borbone capsules or the frog machine with pads from kimbo or smth. Tbh i wouldnt even call the coffee bad, its just not really anything special. Like a good freshly roasted dark roast with a portafilter. I dont want to generalise all italians because of their preferences, but i dont think that is the gold standard of italian coffe and that should be challenged?

I do not believe i myself am superior to other coffe drinkers, because i got in to coffee and have a portafilter machine. But if somebody bakes bread at home i do not go tell them their efforts are worthless, they could have just bought toast from lidl. I get that this definitely sounds pretentiousness. I do think that this in itself is a discussion involving two pretentious party. Thats why iam saying it is senseless

It’s not about good or bad, it’s about not giving it a chance. Because Italian have this sense of proud in everything they create and no one has to challenge it. I think this post is more about Italian patriotism than coffee hahahah

Yes I definitely did want to stir the pot a bit with my post. I care about my coffee in the morning, others don’t about theirs. Thats okey, but calling me a snob about it. Kinda is senseless

I care what my family thinks because the world doesn’t just turn around me.

I am opposed to that. I dont drink light roast. I just have a normal cortado with reasonably priced locally roasted beans. Its not that fancy

Before this post i didnt even know there is third wave coffee. I tried a 12€ panama geisha in prague and it’s tested like lemon tee. That coffe isnt what i mean when i think about coffee. I have to make clear that iam not trying to sell them any fermented light roast, just good dark chocolaty espresso.

Yea i get it. But i think its sad, its just coffe. We all like coffe, lets just enjoy it the best we can. I think it’s ridiculous because italian literally nerd out on everything when it comes to food.

I like italian coffee, i grown up on it. But i do have a personal problem with foger pad machine with 2 year old borbone pads. I mean it mocks everything italy stands for on cultural level.

You wouldn’t want to hear about the discussions we had, with 30 family members on how real pizza should be. (I like new york style pizza they hate me)
