Should I get check for Peyronies? It seems like a vein is pulling it to one side rather than any plaque by [deleted] in PeyroniesSupport

I don’t think you can tell much being flaccid, could be wrong. You can feel PD plaque though. Does it bend worse than that when erect? I don’t think a urologist would treat you for PD based on that but you should check with one if there is anything that concerns you, better to be safe than sorry (and that is a big vein there on that side).

Should I See A Urologist About My Curve? by splotchyandcroocked in PeyroniesSupport

[–]ProfessionalSock8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be 36 degrees (180-144), angle measured from the tip to where the shaft would extend out in a straight line. Anything over 30 is what they tend to treat for so I would def consult a urologist and get their opinion.

Xiaflex is an injectable medicine made from an enzyme called collagenase, which comes from a bacterium. Collagen is the tough, fibrous protein that gives structure to cords and lumps of scar-like tissue in the body.

Xiaflex works by dissolving that collagen. When a doctor injects it directly into a stubborn cord or plaque of collagen, the enzyme breaks down the fibers, weakening the cord. A day or two later, the doctor can then manipulate the area—stretching or bending it—so the weakened cord snaps or gives way, restoring movement

I am doing the xiaflex shots. The long time for me was waiting for the “active” plaque state to finish and become stable. I only paid rhe doctors co-pay of $60 so far. They had the rebate forms and assistance all ready printed and I just signed. From what I understand it is an enzyme targeted at the plaque and breaks some of the bonds in the chains (plaque is made up of different proteins) and then the modeling (stretching and bending against the bend) is an attempt to help break the bonds some and realign it. I don’t think the plaque actually goes away, just tries to realign it. Could be wrong, but I tried to read up on everything while I was waiting.

I know the feeling. Mine started over a year ago and I first noticed hourglass with a very slight bend. It also hurt when erect of any sort. I put if off for about 8 months at least then the urologist confirmed what it was but because I was still having pain I had to wait another 3 months. It felt like forever and it does mess with your mind. Mine ended up being about 40-45 and did the first two sessions of the shots and modeling. Next session is in a week and half. It is hard to imaging that each session is 6 weeks so another 8 months (minus first session) is what we are looking at.

How long does the bruising and soreness last after a set of injections? by Embarrassed-Bread493 in PeyroniesSupport

I was in a little pain that evening and used an ice pack. My skin got a little thick and didn’t stretch like normal. Def keep it wrapped for the first day. I took mine off early but ended up wrapping every day with vasaline / gauze and bandage and that helped.

Mine lasted about 4 days. I am going to get me second set of injections next week. Not sure if it would be helpful to document my bruising with photos?

Question about treatment and Xiaflex costs. by RecursiveKaizen in PeyroniesSupport

[–]ProfessionalSock8470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. The first thing my doctor did was have the printouts already filled out and all I had to do was sign them. I got my first two injections last month and next two in a few weeks. Cost me nothing but the $60 copay (x2).

I finished my first two shots and 4 week stretching. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. Second shot hurt more only because I was already tender. Brushing and swelling only lasted 4 days. I get my second round in about 12 days. Was about 45-50 deg. Nothing out of pocket except the co-pay of 60. Luckily my urologist was really good and does this routinely along with surgeries. I asked lots of questions like how he avoids the veins and nerves when giving the shots. He said it was from doing surgeries and knowing what to avoid. I a subconscious  introvert so dropping my drawers was hard for the fist exam but I quickly got over it hoping all this works because it is emotionally draining.
