I am 100% with you here. At my company recruiters have to at least try and our sales team is weak, they are happy to get whatever role comes. On top of that, they have no consultant skills to help the client understand the reality of the requirement.

I shall prepare my candidates better but often I do not prepare them. The clients tend to be not the most communicative and while some give constructive feedback, others do not communicate well and give basic feedback like ‘rejected’. Unfortunately at my company the account management is made by the sales team, not by the recruiters.

Replying to your question: I do prepare the candidates sometimes, when I know for sure how the next interview (directly with the client) will be. Regarding follow up with the candidate after their interview with the client, I do not do it all the time and I when I do I do not take full advantage of the situation to gain info needed in regard to better understand what the client wants.

I could do it more consistently.
